“An overlooked part of the Louvre”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

If you want see a facinating selection of furniture, fashion and jewellery then visit this museum. The art nouveau and art deco furniture section is worth a visit all on its own. You can dip into whichever period or aspect is of interest. And the staff were unusually helpful.

This is such a satisfying and inspiring museum! I loved the art nouveau and art deco sections and could spend all day just gazing there. But there is so much more. If you like fashion, jewellery, interior design, etc you can spend many days here. My only frustration was not having any photos to take home and study to remind myself of the sumptiousness and skills of these artists.

“Van Cleef Arpels Exhibit”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

This was jaw-dropping and the exhibit was laid out in the most spectacular way so that you just sailed past some of the world's most exquisite pieces. Some even from Princess Grace and Elizabeth Taylor. Quiet an impressive museum and my first visit after so many times in Paris. A must-see whatever exhibit is on. Nice bookstore, but limited in current exhibit offerings which was a disappointment.

“A Gem: Van Cleef & Arpels Exposition is Superb”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

Lovely museum. After the overwhelming display of the Louvre, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs is a relief. Its a Gem. It is well laid out, free Audio Guide, lots of info on the displays, easy to navigate..

We loved the diamonds and jewels of the Van Cleef & Arpels Exposition. Absolutely superb. From the video, you can see how the items are designed, drawn, modelled and made. To see the original from Duchess of Windsor - real history. The royalty of the world have been clients. superb lighting and displays. C'est Top.

The furniture - Art Deco and Nouveau was lovely. The collection of chairs from 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s was wonderful.

The clothes from last 2 centuries was wonderfully displayed - clear, simple colourful examples. Not too many - just right.

“Amazing Collection”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

I thought the entrance fee was a bit steep compared to other museums in Paris but if you love fashion or history this is the place for you. The collection covers approximately 1750 - 1900 with finely detailed and beautifully preserved costumes in a pristine setting. Descriptions are in French and English. No photos but bring your sketch and note book to take notes, you'll regret it if you don't. My companion found the low lights disturbing making the smaller notes difficult to read with old eyes but then it depends how much detail interests you.
