“A wonderful house with a sad history”
Reviewed August 9, 2014

This is a splendid house built in the early 20th century but furnished in a style of 200 years earlier. It's not like going to a museum but visiting the private home of a very rich family. A family you get to know as there is so much personal stuff there. Along the way you learn the family's history which is a tragic one.

“Worth it if only because it's not crowded”
Reviewed July 26, 2014

A glimpse into a wealthy Parisian's home and art. Part of the museum pass and located off the beaten path a bit but still in Paris proper. Very interesting furnishings and the kitchen was particularly fun to see as it is all as it was.

“Lovely Example of the Good Life”
Reviewed July 24, 2014

Our guide, Olivier, from Coloratour, recommended this one. Sweet little private mansion on le Parc Manceau. Everything just in place as it was. Interesting, wealthy family with a sad twist at the end.

“A treasure trove of 18th c French furniture”
Reviewed July 24, 2014

This a gorgeous house built specially to house a collection built up over a lifetime. Sadly, the heir was killed in WW1 and the rest of the family died or was deported in WW2, so the wonderful house and contents were left to the state on condition they be left as planned. We loved the china (made for a favourite of Cahtherine the Great) and silver in particular.
Off the beaten track, so visiting is a pleasure and not a fight.
