“Corail - not bad”
Reviewed September 8, 2007

We stayed at the Corail at the end of our honeymoon for a couple of days in Paris before heading home.

Pleasantly surprised at the location (within 5 minutes walking distance of Gare du Lyon), and found the majority of the staff were really nice - the lady on reception was really helpful and friendly, and the kitchen/breakfast room staff couldn't do enough to help. The night staff were OK, but seemed a bit put out if you needed anything (I have to say we didn't find the need, but we did walk into the middle of a little bit of an arguement between another resident and one of the night staff - regrettably the resident wasn't really a good ambassador for the English with his attitude.....).

Two minor concerns - the lift is tiny, and we struggled to get in it (2 people with 2 rucksacks), and the shower opening was a bit on the snug side (if you've more than a couple of extra pounds, you might find it a bit of a squeeze!).

The hotel is only 10 minutes walk from the Bastille (it's pretty much right between the Gare du Lyon metro, and the Bastille metro), there are some great little bars and restaurants nearby (I heartily recommend the Moroccan place a couple of bars up from the hotel).

It's a great little base, don't expect 5* luxury coz you won't get it, but I would recommend it.

WARNING TO PEOPLE BOOKING VIA EXPEDIA - when we came to check out, we had to pay extra for breakfast although our Expedia booking advised it was included. The proprietress was really apologetic, but stated that Expedia were making mistakes on their reservations, and showed us proof.

terrible... thats the only review i can write...
very very bad decor... very small rooms...impolite staff..

you dont need that on your holiday.... such a mood spoiler...

We had two rooms booked...and when checking in we asked if we can have them near-by...the receptionist answered... "all rooms are full... i cant throw people out and make room for you...."

It was just a request.... but got a real rude reply. At breakfast it took us 5 mins to explain to the lady that we need coffee...

these are few examples to beware u all... stay at your own risk...

The rooms were tiny, and below the standards of a 3* Hotel. There was no Fridge in the room, storage room was insufficient. The carpet was old and filthy. Lift not even enough for 4 people !
Very unpleasant stay !

I would only recommend this hotel if you were staying for one night and/or needed to be near the Gare Lyon.

The hotel was quite threadbare. Furnishings, floor and carpeting could use an upgrade. Though, the bathroom tiles were pretty. It was clean, but very basic. If you are looking for ambiance, you won't find it here. I was only here for one night, but would not recommend it for more than 2.

The people at the front desk were very nice and it is really close to the Bastille area.

3 star hotel but it really likes as a hostel! very little rooms with awful decor and a very old bathroom. The only good thing is that is very well located but I recomend to pay a little more and stay in a hotel chain like accor, holiday inn, melia, etc..

Very small rooms in this hotel & the decor could do with updating but it is clean and only a 10/15 minute walk from Notre Dame (or less than 5 minutes to Gare de Lyon for the metro or trains).Breakfast is €7.50 extra and is fairly basic but still you'll get a lot more for your money than eating in a café.
