“Cozy, classy, pricey!”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

Well located in St Germain, just far enough away from the madding crowds while being close enough to anything of interest. Paris is one of the world's best walking cities and this is an ideal base to take in the sights and sample some great food. It has a sense of history and you feel the staff take pride in working there - we found the concierge service to be particularly helpful. The rooms are quite small but well appointed and decorated - our (superior) room came with a decent view that included the top third of the Eiffel Tower which felt like a bit of a bonus.
For a small 5* property you can get some good deals to stay here but, as others have noted, once you do arrive some things are eye-wateringly expensive. Not least the bar which is probably why it remained stubbornly quiet while we were there. We did sample some of their cocktails which were admittedly well made but at north of 20 Euros a go they should be. We also ate at the attached Joel Robuchon restaurant one night (advanced pre-booking required) and while the food was everything you would expect from a 2 Michelin Star establishment, the bill for 2 people can easily sail towards 500 Euros if you try a few dishes and take some recommended wine pairings...
Thankfully the locale means there are plenty of more wallet friendly options within a 10 minute stroll and I would happily recommend La Fregate for lunch (with a great view of the river and Louvre), and either 'Le Christine' or 'Alcazar' for great meal in the evening. The latter is quite a funky place with a great bar upstairs offering imaginative cocktails at much more reasonable prices.

We certainly enjoyed our stay and as fairly frequent visitors to Paris will probably return one day. We've tended to stay on the other side of the river and walked across to St Germain of an evening. The Hotel Lotti probably remains our first choice for value and luxury in Paris but the Pont Royal is certainly up there.

The prices are a little high at this hotel but it did not disappoint! Located in the enchanting St Germain neighbourhood, it's a stone throw away from the Louvre and it's gardens and from many other important Paris sights.

The Eric Kayser bakery just a short walk away sells delicious pastries (we ate breakfast here rather than paying for the expensive breakfast at the hotel) and there are many charming cafés and shops nearby.

Expect friendly and helpful front desk service, pretty looking hotel, super clean and good sized rooms, delicious smelling lobby, convenience of a mini supermarket, bakery and many shops and restaurants nearby with the nearest metro just a few minutes walk away!

We took a family vacation to Paris for the Christmas holidays and stayed at the Hotel Pont Royal. It is a small boutique hotel on the left bank. It's just a few blocks from the Louvre and very convenient to other right bank attractions. The hotel is small and very very customer oriented. The staff is outstanding. The rooms a small by American standards but are uniquely French. We had 2 junior suited for 4 adults and 2 teen agers and were quite comfortable. There's a great French bakery a couple of blocks away and good to great restaurants close by.
If you want a French experience in a small hotel, we would highly recommend.

We decided to stay at the Pont Royal as it had a 5 star rating, was in a great location and was on the same street of the hotel Montalembert-which is where we should have stayed..- which has a great reputation.
The hotel front desk staff is very gracious but that is all that's really worth mentioning.

The hotel is no more than a 3 star and here is why:

1. Bar was closed for 24 hours and no mention was made to any of the guests. This 75 room hotel has only area to eat/drink so this was really inconvenient as we did not know
2. Attempted to order breakfast at 7:05am on a weekday 3 times - had to call the front desk for assistance who ended up transferring me to someone who spoke no English
3. Open jar of apricot jam was on the room service breakfast tray which also included a plastic coffee urn...! This is certainly NOT 5 star!!
4. Room was requested to be serviced at 9a on a weekday- when we returned at 3:30p, it was not yet serviced
5. Plastic shoe horns, finger size soaps for the shower, no body lotion as an amenity, plastic laundry bags never replaced during a 4 day stay
6. Gym is the most DEPRESSING ever! It's hard enough to exercise...gym is in a sub basement, in a tiny room- 1 treadmill, 1 elliptical and 1 upper body machine - that's it.
There is a SMALL TV faced behind all the equipment so you can't even watch it while exercising. The volume is locked on low so you can't even hear it EITHER. There is no air so it gets extremely hot quickly.

How can this possibly be rated a 5 STAR!? Clearly it is not.

Skip this hotel. There are too many lovely, 5 star boutique hotels in Paris to chose from.

We stayed at the Hotel Pont Royal on our visit to Paris this Holiday Season. The rooms were small but clean and the beds were VERY comfortable. The breakfast came with the room and was nice but not over the top. The staff was great and very helpful. Best of all though was the location..we walked everywhere or got on the metro.
Really this is a great place to stay!

Coming from a modern hotel to this gem was a reminder that we were in Europe. This is truly a lovely hotel in a great location. The rooms were very small but well appointed so we didn't mind.

There was an understated luxury that we appreciated. The hotel staff and especially the concierge and bar staff were very welcoming and understanding of our lack of French. The concierge was very helpful in suggesting and making restaurant reservations for us and never steered us wrong. We loved both restaurants that he suggested.

If you are a vodka drinker you have to try the Strawberry and Balsamic Vinegar Martini in the hotel bar. It was really, really good.

The hotel was a short walk to most of the things that we wanted to see or do and we there was a taxi stand a short distance to take us places that were farther away.

The breakfast was nice but probably a little overpriced for what it was. Luckily there were many restaurants and cafes in the area so it was not an issue.

We plan on staying in this hotel the next time we are in Paris.

If looking for a 5 star hotel in Paris, ignore the 100 Euro plus right bank. Come to the Hotel Royale, perfectly situated in the lively Saint Germains district. Full of lively bars and restaurants and great for people watching. The real Paris. The hotel is small, very comfortable and all the staff treat you like one of the family. What are you waiting for.
