“Glad we stayed here”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

The location was great. It is a block from the Arc de Triumph and a metro. There are many great restaurants around that we walked to. We even found a great bakery and had croissants every morning. It would have been more convenient to stay more towards the East, near more tourist sights, but I liked being here too. The hotel staff were amazing. They made dinner reservations, fixed the air conditioning, taught us a little french, and showed us directions. Our room did not have a view of the Arc de Triumph but we didn't mind. I love the Parisian street view. Paris is so pretty, wherever you go! The hotel really was charming. Oh, and the room and restroom was surprisingly large for Paris.

Room Tip: If you want an arc de triumph view then make sure you have it when you book. Not all rooms have it.

My partner and I have just spent a long weekend at this hotel. We have visited Paris many time and find this hotel to be as good, if not better than most others we have stayed at.

Usually they are either too expensive, too small, too far away from everything or all of the above all at once.

The location is excellent, far enough away from the tourists, but close enough to be a tourist...

It is conveniently located to the Arc de Triomphe (feels like you can reach out and touch it from the balcony) meaning you can walk there in a minute and therefore be at the top of the Champ Élysées in 5 if you walk to the top of the road, make your way under the Arc and up the other side, rather than walk around road.

There is an elevator to the metro from the footpath directly in front of the hotel which is very convenient if your using the Metro system.

If you are taking a bus to the airport, you can pick one up across the road and it is a direct service for 17 Euro per person. Alternatively, the cost of the taxi is around 55 - 60 Euro, also available immediately outside the hotel.

The hotel itself is very clean, the front desk staff are friendly and helpful. English was no problem for everyone we spoke to at reception.

There are plenty of good eating places in easy walking distance in any direction.

If you are looking for a friendly, convenient and not overly expensive hotel with good sized rooms and reliable internet (free...) this is a good option.

The comments I read about the size of the elevators are correct, they are pretty tiny, but honestly, anyone who sees that as a problem, has a problem. The staff will arrange to bring your bags up if requested.

We will definitely stay here again next time we want to have a visit to Paris.

We arrived here for a weeks stay. It was my first visit to Paris. My wife and daughter had visited this hotel, a couple of years ago. The first thing to say is that our suite, on the fourth floor was absolutely great. It was large and very well decorated and very well furnished. The bathroom was truly excellent, very clean and modern. Quite often it is the bathroom that lets hotels down, not so at the Splendid Etoile . We had two balconies, with large French windows that actually opened.
The air conditioning was truly effective, and so quiet. Room lighting is great and is more like mood lighting. There is more than enough wardrobe space. The sofa bed is of a real quality, thank goodness.
All common areas are very well done, the lifts may be on the small side, but they run efficiently
The dining room, for breakfast is wonderful, and the buffet breakfast is fantastic, look out for all the fresh fruit - superb. The staff at breakfast are lovely, the young girl works very hard, and always has a smile on her face
The staff on reception are very friendly and helpful, we really got on with them well. Nam is a great young man, who is doing his training, we truly wish him well with his future, I'm sure he will go far.
Of special mention, is Farooq, the head concierge. He is absolutely wonderful, he looked after my wife and daughter on their last visit. He certainly looked after us during this visit, nothing is too much trouble for him, he exceeds at the job, and many other concierges could learn a lot from this decent, professional man. To be clear, all of the personnel, are very good indeed, and the hotel is lucky to have them.
The position of the hotel is unbelievable, within spitting distance of the Arc de Triomphe, simply fantastic. The Eiffel Tower is visible, near to the Hotel. And the Champs Élysées is within a short walk away. I could not believe that a hotel could be in such a good spot.
For sure, this is no where near the cheapest hotel in Paris, but sometimes you just have to pay for what you get, and you do get an awful lot at the Splendid Etoile.
Finally, we will most certainly re visit this fantastic City and this Fantastic Hotel. Thank you Splendid Etoile for making our vacation so very memorable.

Room Tip: Go higher up for less street noise

I had to pinch myself when we arrived at the splendid etoile hotel - a stones throw away from the arc de triomphe and the champs élysées, the location and views couldn't have been more idyllic.

Admittedly however, we were disappointed with our initial room , as a standard double room it was small with a view of a wall, I'd advise to pay attention to the room type you have booked. This was quickly amended however with an upgrade for a very reasonable price, to a superior room with views and the most gorgeous Parisian themed suite. It was cleaned to a very high standard everyday, and the addition of air conditioning was very welcome as Paris was hot hot! The only thing that would have made our room perfect would have been milk for a cup of tea.

The staff were the friendliest I've come across in a hotel, they were always happy to help and they were impeccably polite. Breakfast was a wide array of fruits, meats, pastries, cereals and some hot food - perfect selection for setting you up for a day of sight seeing!

There are a couple of things to watch out for that we experienced in and around Paris -

I'd advise to research restaurants before you go, as being in the champs élysées area, the food and drink are extortionate, so look into restaurants (such as the Latin quarter) unless you want to spend 150€ for two courses and two drinks every night! Also, a lot of restaurants are closed on a Sunday.

There are also a few scams to look out for around the tourist hot spots - there are girls walking around with petition boards allegedly for the deaf, and when they lure you in for a signature they bombard you for a donation. Sneaky.

Also, never ask a hotel or restaurant to order you a taxi, as the taxi fare is switched on as soon as the taxi is ordered, this caught us out on our last night when a 10€ taxi ended up costing 20€! There is a rank right outside the splendid etoile so you shouldn't need to order a taxi.

For excursions, the hop on hop off bus is a must, 29€ for one day or 33€ for two. We also went to the sacre coeur basilica one day - it has a lovely big lawn, so we got a picnic from the drugstore on champs élysées (the most incredible delicatessen!!) and chilled in the sun all afternoon.

I had initially booked the bateaux mouches for our dinner cruise, but the reviews were bad so I changed to bateaux Parisians and chose the etoile experience. It was a fantastic night - gorgeous food, wine, champagne, live music and a tour down the river seine, finished with the Eiffel Tower light display! I'd recommend to book the package above the etoile experience if there is just the two of you, because we ended up practically on the same table as those beside us, and the better package gave you a private table by the window.

A charming hotel and amazing holiday overall, book it now!

My daughter and I stayed at the Splendid Etoile Hotel in late May for 3 Nights. The Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms were a good size and renovated. We had a superior Arc De Triomphe view room with several balconies. The Hotel is in a good position central to Champs Elysee and the Hop on Hop off bus. We were on the 2nd floor and the room was quiet as it had double glazed windows. Next time in Paris I will definitely be staying at this Hotel.

This hotel was tastefully decorated, quiet & had a great location - a short walk from Champs Elysees and Arc de Triomphe; several good restaurants close by and subway literally outside the door. 5th floor view was exceptional especially at night - sip champagne on your balcony while watching the lights twinkle on the Eiffel Tower and the rest of Paris! Breakfast buffet was decent and bellman/bartender was very sweet and accommodating. Staff very helpful ; would have rated this as very good to excellent (4.5-5 star) except for the bizarre 4:10 am phone call from the front desk manager waking us up from a dead sleep to ask if our water was running as he had gotten an inquiry from another guest (what??). Since we had a 6 am wakeup that morning for an early tour and it was hard to get back to sleep after such a strange episode. Then, the night before we were leaving my husband went to the front desk to settle our bill. He was told everything was taken care of and nothing more required. When we left the hotel the next morning for the airport, our taxi was phoned on route and told to turn back as we hadn't paid our bill! A fuming hubby was told he had to sign out before leaving to finalize the credit card bill (this is different than in North America where you just drop the key and go). Don't know why they didn't get him to do that the night before or when we handed in the key back in the morning, but when we asked them to pay the additional $30 Euro cab fare for this detour they evaded the question. We were in a hurry to get to the airport so didn't argue the point. A really good hotel would acknowledge/apologize for these incidents and the inconvenience. Bottom line - potential to be really fabulous but because of the glitches we would wouldn't try again.

Room Tip: 5th floor has exceptional view

Dear guest,

I could see from your comments on TripAdvisor that your recent stay with us was not at all up to expectations.

We are deeply sorry for keeping you awake so early but your neighbor had contacted us for a leak in the bathroom and for reasons of safety and emergency, our night audit contacted you to see if you don 'not also had a water leak in your bathroom.

I would very much appreciate it if you could contact me concerning the issue you met during your check-out and after your departure, should you be able to make the time, so that we can understand better your guest experience. We generally are pretty good about learning immediately of guests who we have disappointed, but seemingly not in your case!

I hope to hear from when you have time.

My mother and I stayed here for three nights and we could not have been more happy with our stay. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are incredibly comfortable, and the views are spectacular! Unfortunately, the Arc de Triomphe is under construction right now so the views aren't quite as picturesque but it's still beautiful! There are tons of cute little cafes and restaurants in the area and you can walk everywhere! It's also right across the street from a Metro stop which makes it easy to get to the outskirts of the city.
We stayed in a superior two twin room and it contained possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. You melt right into the bed and you barely want to leave! The bathroom is also beautiful with a great shower and plenty of space to get ready.
Overall it is a beautiful hotel that I would definitely recommend to anyone. You get a great value for your money and it is in a wonderful location. Five stars!

Room Tip: Rooms with the view are so worth the upgrade! It's a once in a lifetime view.
