“Outstanding staff, excellent location”
Reviewed July 3, 2011

This was my first trip to France, and based on many stories, I expected staff at French hotels to be a bit snobbish and rude, but that was not this case with this hotel! The staff were all very helpful, polite and delightful. One of the maids even helped us with our baggage. It IS a small hotel so do not expect ammenities that come with bigger properties, but it did have free wi-fi and the rooms are surprisingly large, humongous really. The concierge told me it is a renovated old building from the 1800s I think. The exterior is gorgeous and the views are amazing. We could see the Arc de Triumph and the Eiffel Tower from our room.

The only downside is that since it is an older building, the carpets are a big dated and the elevators only fit two people. But the room decor is gorgeous!

If you are looking for the perfect four-star hotel In Paris, you can stop right now. You will not be dissappointed with the Splendid Etoile. And don't forget to try out the Patiserrie just down the street--the pastries are to die for!

Oh, and take a bike tour! It's ridiculously fun!

We were 3 persons (family) sharing a room in may 09. Actually the room seemed to be a 2 bedroom apartment, with 3 separated beds and a great bathroom. Totally soundproofed and well decorated. Great spots are within walking distance, like the Champs Elysees. The underground station is right on the doorsteps (in fact it's an elevator to the station). The Air France bus called La Navette takes you from CDG airport directly to the hotel front door as there is a final stop a few meters away. Finally, we found the breakfast expensive, but there are many cafés just across the street where you can have a good breakfast for less than 10 Euro. Staff was polite. So, more than we expected for a 4 stars in Paris. It is worth.

We stayed here in May again after staying there for a week in 2009. We were given a room on the top floor with a loung room and a lage bathroom with views of the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. The air conditioning was a noisey. The breakfast is very good and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The subway is across the road and The Arc de Triomphe is 5 minutes away. We would stay ther again.

This is a fine hotel, very well situated next to the Arc de Triomphe. The rooms are large by Parisian standards, OK by rest-of-world standards. The decor was tasteful: classic French without being too goopy. The rooms are nicely air conditioned. Everything was clean. Staff were very kind and helpful. Wifi was free. Altogether, a pretty good experience.

Things that could have been better: we had a queen bed rather than a king, our room had no view whatsoever, and the room rate was on the high side.

Overall, this is a good Parisian hotel that deserves a high ranking, but it is a few strokes short of getting a top vote from me.

The location was excellent. We requested a room with a view of the L'Arc du Triomphe and we were well pleased. The staff was very helpful.

Lovely hotel with a very helpful staff. Ideally placed for the Metro which we used every day .Good buffet breakfast and very clean. Close to the Arc de Triumph. We forgot some pre booked tickets bought on the internet and were saved by Farouk who phoned all the venues and sorted things for us .Difficult to fault our stay.

After reading all of the excellent reviews, I was so looking forward to staying here. When we arrived, the staff who welcomed us were great, but from there it went downhill. Our room faced the street. (The metro and RER are right there, so that was good.) You had to go out to the balcony to see the Arc de Triomphe. That was fine. What really had me ticked was the television.
All of the other hotels we stayed on this trip had an array of stations in English. Being that I splurged on this hotel, I really felt ripped off that they only had 2 news stations and one sports station in English. Seeing nothing but Turking refugee camps and Muammar al-Gaddafi playing chess on the loop was really irritating.
In the morning when we tried to take our showers, there was NO hot water. When I asked at the desk about the hot water they said they were at full capacity. You would think that they should be able to handle full capacity.
One other thing was the key. You had to leave it at the desk and there were different people at the desk all the time. Just walk in from the street and give them a number, they'll give you the key- no questions asked!
Perhaps I was expecting too much. Overall, I was disappointed.
