“Paris Convention Hotel not good for vacations!”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

My grandson and I were recently in Paris for a few days prior to embarking on a river cruise and as part of the cruise package we were placed at this Pullman Paris Montparnasse. I'm sure it would be a fair convention hotel but not good for leisure travelers. Construction was going on and our first room was so loud we had to change. The second room was better but we could still hear drilling and construction noises during our stay. The breakfast was mediocre and buffet dishes were often emptied and not quickly refilled. The lobby was full of large tour groups that stood around in mindless groups clogging the entire lobby area. The elevators were slow and we often waiting 10 or more minutes to get on one. The location was fair with metro stations nearby and the train station across the street. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone on holiday in Paris.

Giant, old hotel. Non-refurbished room which is dated but clean. The worst thing is the mostly indifferent, occasionally hostile, service from hotel staff especially in the breakfast room. The concierges, Gregg and Olivier, are exceptions. They have been very helpful.

The lobby is the meeting place for the many large tour groups passing through; thus it is often crowded and loud. Common areas are worn and tattered. The breakfast room is a zoo--chaotic and noisy.

I tried every button on my room phone to reach the front desk with no success (and btw, my phone is labeled with the wrong room number). What if I had an emergency? How would I reach someone?

Workout facility is cramped and inadequate for a hotel this size. This is corporate hotel style at its worst. I will not stay with Pullman again. Don't make the same mistake!

This high rise hotel is situated about a 200 meter walk from the metro (Montparnasse, good connections to all parts of Paris from here) and a few minutes walk frp, the Tour Montparnasse. Direct metro connection to Gare Nord (about 12 stops, 30 minutes). Since we arrived by Thalys into Gare Nord, and our trip was aimed towards shopping the summer sales, it was a very good choice.

Lots of cafes, restaurants, creperies, a jazz cafe right next door, shopping (Galerie Lafayette etc) and a short walk to the Saint-Germain boutiques, supermarkets, bakeries, etc in the immediate vicinity.

Huge lobby but was incredibly busy and noisy (the hotel seems to be very popular with huge tour groups). Reception desk was incredibly friendly and we were allowed to check in a few hours before the regular check in time.

Our room was on the 20th floor with good views out to Sacre Cour, Notre Dame, etc. Not the prime views of Paris, but enchanting nevertheless. One of the biggest plus factors of staying at this hotel was the size of our room. It was huge with 2 double beds - the biggest room I've ever stayed in Paris. Bathroom was clean and fairly large, well equipped with basic toilettries and a good hair dryer.

The hotel is currently under renovation but we didnt face any inconvenience because of this.

Breakfast was not included in our room rate and was an additional 25euro/person but we opted to have breakfast all mornings in the one or other of the several cafes in the area.

There is an excellent Jazz club/restaurant a few doors down from the hotel (great music, okay food).

Tourist tip: Saint Suplice church of the Da Vinci fame is within walking distance from the hotel.

Tip for shoppers: Grab the Paris maps with the 10% discount cards for the 2 department stores (Galerie Lafayette and Haussman Printemps) at the reception desk/conceirge.

I stayed here for the night of Friday 6 July. Skyscraper structure

Plus points:
1. Location within 100 metres of east side exit from Montparnasse railway station
2. Large room (2143) with 2m x 2m comfortable bed
3. Spacious bathroom with separate loo in an alcove off the bathroom
4. Price €139 for advance payment booking

Minus points
1. My Accor card qualified me for an upgrade but it was not ready on arrival so I accepted the quality booked
2. Breakfast was in a huge room on 1st floor with a limited range of items. Though branded "Notre" (a luxury one), I thought the items distinctly average
3. Breakfast cost €25. Not worth it.
4. Lots of groups, so not as upmarket as brand suggested
5. irritating steps down from the street. Surprised no ramp or slope (though a small disabled lift)

Overall, a good hotel but not as good as I was anticipating

We stayed there with a group that ended a very nice river cruise with this hotel. The rooms were certainly adequate and clean but service was poor with the exception of Estelle who was terrific. The location was near a railroad station but beyond that there was no reason to be there. The main areas were in desperate need of refurbishing and the breakfast area was large and confusing. You needed to make your own coffee and search for sugar, salt and pepper and flatware. What a way to start a day. When you leave the hotel you have a great view of a lineup of motorcycles and then a parade of security police in front of the railroad station. No thank you...where is Paris?

I booked this hotel though Priceline (name your price). It was a great value for the cost considering Paris accommodations can get pricey. It’s a very clean and modern hotel with standard amenities…no frills. They offer a brunch onsite but it’s very pricey so we didn't bother. It’s easily accessible by public transport. Staff was friendly and helpful. More fit for corporate clientele but still OK for vacationers.

I was booked at this hotel by a tour group I was joining. This was the fourth hotel I have stayed at in Paris, both individually and traveling with tour groups, and it was definitely the worst. Overall the decor in both the lobby and rooms was ordinary, but the beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. The shower head would not stay up. Several other people in the group had the same problem and some of them had showers that didn't work at all.
The breakfast room was uncomfortable and the buffet itself was far below what I expect from hotels at this price point. The first morning the waiter brought coffee but no milk. The second morning, after quite a wait, I went to get the coffee myself, but was intercepted by a waiter who agreed to bring it to the table.
The staff, with a few exceptions, was not particularly helpful. The concierge was obnoxious. When we asked about the desk where our tour director would be or the place where information would be posted, he said he had no information about that company. However, the company has used this hotel for four years and the tour group desks were together at the other end of the lobby.
The cafe was supposed to be open until 2 am. The dining area closed at 6 (with no notice posted). We could still eat in the lounge but the service was slow because one bartender had to handle the bar and the lounge.
There are a number of good restaurants in the area and I suggest you eat outside of the hotel.
If you were coming to Paris by train the hotel would be convenient because the train station is right across the street. However, to reach the Metro one must go through the train station and take a long underground passage. It is not a comfortable trek at night.
If this hotel charged $120 a night I might rate it average, but for the money you can find better places.
