“Nice hotel in Paris, very well located.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2012

If location and cleanliness are the most important things when you’re considering a hotel to stay, Raspail certainly is the perfect choice in your visit to Paris. This is located in the corner of the Blvd Raspail and Montparnasse, which means plenty of choices in terms of restaurants, shops, etc. Moreover: the metro station Vavin is in the corner and the bus 68 stops exactly at the door of the hotel, the RER B (which comes from the Charles de Gaulle) stops 400m. Better location, impossible.

The hotel is quite small, but seems be very well managed: the rooms and bathroom are clean, well decorated and everything work well (the same can be seen in public areas). The staff is friendly, efficient, speaks a clear English and have good recommendations of places around the hotel. Kindness such as an early check-in, was offered for free, they also offered complimentary espresso and received packages/mail on our behalf – excellent!

Do not expect a fancy decoration or wide areas but everything fits exactly in the expectations of an upscale touristic class hotel which costs around EUR100/night. I would recommend anyone to stay here, as the cost benefit equation matches the perfect balance.

Some reviews here refer to the lack of space, well, in fact the lift is tiny, quite claustrophobic… only to figure out, to take the luggage to our room we need to make it in 2 rounds because there was no space for 2 big baggage at the same time as 2 people in the lift. Regarding the room, even staying in the superior room (which is a little bit larger than the standard double) sometimes I felt some lack of space but these things we could easily manage as we were in Paris and we do not stay too long in the hotel.

Despite of all good things I said about this hotel, one thing is clearly a flaw: the breakfast. It’s served in a minuscule room no charming, located in underground, no windows. Served in individual trays, the portions are composed by one croissant, one pain au chocolate, two jellies, orange juice, coffee and milk, I understood that “recharging” is not allowed. It’s unbelievable but cheese, ham, cereal, eggs, fruits, breads or hot chocolate are available, however at an extra price. I said unbelievable because due to the level of the hotel you certainly would expect more, moreover, the breakfast is not free, they charge EUR12 per person. In other words the breakfast is simply incompatible to the standards of the hotel. So, if you’re considering booking this hotel and there is a lower rate without breakfast, do not hesitate, book it without breakfast and take it in the various boulangeries located around. Even being a few Euros difference the breakfast of this hotel does not have any value.

Room Tip: A last comment about the room: it was number 34, particularly in this room, the view to the Blvd Mon...

Hotel in a great location, across a large road junction from the Vavin metro stop (on line 14) so only a few stops from the busy areas of St Michel and Chatelet which is good for line changes. Our room was on the small side, but adequate enough for us. The room was clean, I would just say the bathroom was a little outdated but all in all fine. Typical Parisian style to the rooms.

All the staff were very pleasant to deal with and were able to store our luggage on the last day when we had time to spend sight seeing before leaving for the airport. We spent four nights there with breakfast. Breakfast service is quite slow and only a small eating area in the basement, however when we ordered it to our room (for no extra charge), it arrived promptly and was plentiful of croissants, pain au chocolat and bread.

We would definetly stay here again! Good value for money.

I was recently in Paris and stayed on the left Bank in Montparnesse. This hotel is small and at the end of Raspail Blvd and Montparnesse Blvd. It is near the bus line so it makes traveling easy. You can hop on a bus and head to the Right Bank or other areas of Pris. There are many dining choice close by. We ate at a little cafe right across the street...good food and less expensive than on Montparnesse Blvd. Costs in Paris are high and this hotel was reasonable. They do offer breakfast (for an extra cost) but we chose to eat at outdoor cafes. The rooms are small and clean., the beds however are very hard. If you are looking for a soft cushy bed you won't find it here. The view from the balcony was awesome. The staff is friendly and very helpful. If you're staying on this side of town I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing Raspail Blvd- that way you will have a balcony.

This was my first stay at the Raspail Montparnasse. I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel in the Montparnasse area and booked a room for three nights. The reception was warm and welcoming and everything seemed clean and well cared for. My room, a double with twin beds and a sofa/extra sleeping space in the entryway, was spotless. I loved the names of French artists on the outside of each door, and I was delighted that my room bore the name of Raoul Dufy, one of my favorite artists. The bathroom was more than adequate and even contained a bidet.

The location is perfect, especially for first-time visitors to Paris or those who have only a few days to spend in the city. The metro stop Vavin is less than a block away, which made getting to the hotel from CDG via the metro quite convenient. There are tons and tons of restaurants in Montparnasse, including several that have long and interesting histories, among them La Coupole, Le Select, and La Rotonde. Also within walking distance is the bustling rue Daguerre.

Although there's nothing really special about this hotel, the rooms are clean, the location is great, and the prices are less than one might spend in a comparable hotel in the area.

Room Tip: Rooms that face bd Raspail are noisy.

This was our second visit to this small and welcoming hotel. Typically Parisien rooms but well looked after, clean and comfortable. The hotel is in the bustling Montparnasse area with more restaurants to choose from than you could wish for. Something for everyone here. Metro stop Vavin just accross the street means easy access to all the attractions. Free wifi is a plus and the front desk staff are always freindly and helpful. We chose not to have breakfast in the basement which is a little lacking in ambience, but instead sat in one of the many streetside cafes and watched Paris life pass by.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for a superior room for more space.

I love this hotel. when i first saw it (before entering) i was a bit worried because it's not the type of hotel i'm used to seeing. the building is old and it looked small from the outside. when i entered, i was even more worried. the reception area reminds of tiny inns from the 1920's we see on tv. when i checked in to my single room, i was shocked by the size, it's soooo small. BUT, after i settled, i realized that actually, despite its size, it was very convenient, enough closet space, good sized bathroom, flat screen TV, free wifi, and most importantly spotlessly clean.

it's the first time that i travel to paris and i guess such small hotel rooms are normal. i actually enjoyed my stay very much. the location of the hotel is fabulous, just accross the street from vavin metro station, and a 7 minute walk from montparnasse station (which is the main station). there are plenty of cafes and restaurants around it and u can find anything you want. there's also a supermarket very close by.

the only thing that i wasent very much pleased with is the breakfast. they only have croissants and jam, this is somthing im not used to as i like to have a full breakfact with eggs and cheese. but if you want to add eggs or chees to your breakfast, you have to pay, and it's not cheap! they should really make an extra effort with their breakfast menu.

as for the value for money, well from what i've heard and seen is that all hotels are very expensive in paris, so 105 EUR/night is not considered a lot (though for me, i think it's kind of overpriced). so compared to the prices of other hotels, i guess it has good value for money.

i would stay in it again, it's very comfortable and its location is amazing.

We chose this specifically because it describes itself as an art-deco hotel and I had promised my wife a trip to La Coupole, which is just round the corner. While, for me, La Coupole is an "eat here once and them move on" sort of place, our hotel is a "stay here at least twice" sort of hotel.

In fact, having stayed for two nights at the end of December, we rebooked for a return trip for the end of January. It's a cosy little hotel, which is more like a home than a hotel. Sure we had a laugh trying to squeeze both of us into one lift but once we'd opened the door to our Junior Suite (Room 28) there was plenty of space to relax and unwind.

Our receptionist was fantastique and helpful and although we had arrived a little early, our room was ready within ten minutes. The room was not quite as art-deco as the web-site would have you believe though there were some nice touches. My wife was happy, great shower/mini bath and we didn't trip over our suitcases once! I felt that our room looked a bit tired considering the hotel had a make-over only five years or so ago though this could also have been exacerbated by the overwhelming mission brown furnishing the room. Also the old heaters are stil in place with notices saying they no longer worked. Why you wouldn't remove them is beyond me; they're an eye-sore and certainly detract from the aesthetics of the room.

As some of the other reviews have mentioned, the location is excellent and the Vavin metro means you don't have to go anywhere near Gare Montparnasse. The other advantage is that the airport bus from CDG whisks you from the airport and then drops you off just round the corner at its terminus, so the hotel is just six or seven minutes walk. Easy peasey. In fact everything was so easy, that we decided in the end to book on our return to Paris from Lyon.

Room Tip: Upgrade to one of the Junior Suites if you can, just to give you a bit more breathing space.
