Hotel Renoir

Reviewed July 18, 2013

I would not recommend this hotel and do not be taken in by its publicity, it falls a long way short.

Do not confuse it with its very close namesake the Hotel Suites Unic Renoir which is on the other side of the street.

This hotel was shocking. the lock on my door would not open with the key and I had to get the duty manager to open my room every time over the two days, there is no wifi in the rooms, the rooms are small and insufferably warm, made worse by the non-functioning air conditioning unit in the room. The bathroom is small, the bed clean but not particularly comfortable.
I had a street facing room and the noise from the many Creperies is extremely loud and continued into the early hours of the morning, made worse by the fact I had to keep window open because of the heat.
Do not stay in this hotel!!!!!!

Room Tip: Don't book

We stayed here as a last resort as the hotel previous was disgusting we moved from a 2 star to a 3 star I could not tell the difference whoever gives these ratings needs to have their head read. The bed was hard with only a pillow each we asked for another pillow however they had none. The bathroom had black mould and the tiles barely had any grout around them the floor looked dirty and the wallpaper is coming away from the wall the fridge was locked and we had to get a key from reception and then return it however we could not open and close the fridge without the key pointless! The aircon did not work properly and we could not read what temp it was set to. The staff were not very helpful with booking a transfer to the airport and most of the time they could not speak English or claimed not to. The breakfast was not all that good stale bread rolls and warm yoghurt served to us. We would not stay anywhere in Paris again as the people are soo rude and never helpful to English speaking tourists.

The bedroom and bathroom/toilet were really not that clean. Although the hotel staff appeared to do some cleaning and tidying in the room whilst I was out in the day; it really wasn't much. The floor, in particular, was filthy. Everything else was in working order. The WiFi was fine and the rest of the electric appliances worked. But the cupboard door was broken. Breakfast was fairly standard. This is probably OK for a few nights at the most; but any more and I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

Do NOT book into this hotel! I have recently spent two nights there. It is wrongly described as 3 star. It is shabby, dirty and has numerous fire hazards and bad plumbing, - although every room has been equipped with a new flat screen TV! We stayed in rooms 61 and 63 on the sixth floor. On leaving the lift two enormous stains were immediately visible on the worn landing carpeting. In my own room the bed cover was stained and the piping was hanging loose. The bedside drawer was full of a previous guest's used tissues and the mini-bar contained only an old Pepsi bottle and a dirty sock! The handbasin in the shower room was blocked all weekend and there were holes in the cracked tiling at the bottom of the shower. Above the shower room were wooden slats through which it was possible to see that some sort of bedding material was stored there, adjacent to the light fittings! The guttering outside my window was full of old cigarette ends. In my friend's room there was an electric socket hanging loose by the door, with wires exposed, the shower head did not work properly and the mini-bar contained only a bad smell! The only reason we stayed was because the sheets and towels were clean, it was for only two nights and we had pre-paid! We only had one breakfast though (10 Euros extra per person) because the croissants were stale... Much better in local cafes!

We booked this hotel through lastminute.com for a one night stay on Tuesday, 8 January 2013. It is very easy to find from the Montparnasse-Bienvenue Metro station.
We were with given Room 25, which had two bedrooms with the usual set-up of adjoined single beds. Interestingly the beds had blanket and covers, rather than a duvet, but this wasn't a problem - the bedrooms were warm (with adjustable air-conditioning). Each room had a large flat-screen TV. The star of the show was the bathroon - absolutely spot-on, modern room with quality tiling, two basins, tall heated towel rail and a very large shower. Soaps and shower gels provided.
Overall a very comfortable experience - the hotel was neat and clean. Not much noise, other than the occasional rumble of the Metro, but that can be heard or felt just about everywhere in the city!
We would definitely recommend this as a base for a trip to Paris - the Montparnasse area is thriving with places to eat, and the Metro is very easy to use to get from A to B.
NB: there is another Hotel Renoir further along this road on the other side. This review is definitely for 39 rue du Montparnasse, and it's a decent, up-to-date hotel, as described by lastminute.com.

Room Tip: Room 25 was comfortable for three adults, with an excellent bathroom.

This is an awful hotel do NOT stay here.
Our room was really small, the bedclothes were stained, it had a terrible smell and was generally unhygienic. It was difficult to breathe at times as it was so dusty.
The walls and furniture were in very bad condition and the sink in the bathroom had a deep crack running down it.

The hotel has no standards of cleanliness or health and safety. The description on lastminute.com says it has been renovated but there is no evidence of that, either in the rooms or in the corridors or main areas which are dirty with frayed carpets and cracked walls. In addition there were naked electrical wires coming out of the walls in the corridor.

In my opinion this hotel should not be open to the public.
