“Quiet location but small room”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2013

We wanted an individual, non-chain, hotel close to Gare de Lyon and thought this looked ideal. Hotel was only a shortish walk from the station (20 mins - we like walking!) and it was situated on a main road, but set well back from it. Hotel was typically French but with a "designer twist". Unfortunately our room was on the ground floor directly opposite the hotel's conservatory dining area. Our room had full French doors, which meant we couldn't open any window for natural ventilation. Also had to keep the blinds drawn at all times. Room was also very small and quite claustrophobic. Perhaps we were just unlucky with our allocated room. Otherwise, the hotel met our requirements for a one night stay. However, we wouldn't have wanted to stay longer in the room we had.

Room Tip: Don't stay in a ground floor room.

Stayed for one week and chose this hotel for budget factors only.

The hotel is ideal for short stays. Room is simple and smaller, which is typical Paris. Hotels rooms in the main building is accessible via elevator.

Maintenence of rooms is questionable. We had to change rooms in the middle of stay because it rained heavily and had a water leak in the ceiling. No storage space by the bathroom sink. Only a small glass partition for a shower, so get ready for a really wet floor! Grout on bathroom tiles missing leaving gaps exposed. I guess that is where some of the spiders came put from! The bathroom floor board was kept in place with duct tape. There were lots of small ants in our room that came out from the gap between the wall and the flooring. We tried to avoid keeping food in our rooms. Two of our lights did not turn on but we made do as the other lights were working fine. There were bleach stains on the flooring.

Most of the staff speak limited English. The front desk can be impatient with you when it gets busy. The check in desk is only a standing podium so expect to line up and take your turn.

Upon our check-in, we were not provided any explaination about the workings of the hotel. We were just handed our room key with no directions on how to get to our rooms. Those travelling with a larger piece of luggage? Don't bother. Our room was only accessible via stairs so we had to carry it up/down a couple
flight of stairs.

Don't bother relying on the hotel guide book in the room. It only provides a sparse amount of information for guests. You pretty much have to do the guess work or ask the hotel staff who usually provide incomplete answers or gives you attitude.

For budget travelers, you can take advantage of the supermarket down the street. You can bring food back to your room to eat. Apparently, you're not allowed to eat in the 'breakfast room'. If the hotel does not want guests using the 'breakfast room' there should be clear signage or clearly have it outlined in the hotel guidebook. We wanted to avoid the ant problem in our room by not eating in our room.

Breakfast served daily but same items are served every day. Skip the hotel breakfast and eat elsewhere. Try the bakeries down the street for a better variety. If you choose to have breakfast in the hotel, don't show up close to the end time (30-45 min before end time) The housekeepers will clear out the breakfast items early.

Only positive of the hotel:
-Two metro stops only a 2-5 min walk away, which was convenient to get into the city center.
- Free Wireless internet available.

Don't be fooled by its charming facade. I am suprised we even survived our week-long stay. Definitely will not be staying here when visiting Paris again. I'd rather stay at a place where true hospitality is welcomed and practiced.

Great hotel. Decor is trendy and unique and the rooms are pretty good. Reception are great particularly if you have trouble with the french language. Also located close to two train stations giving access to the whole city

We only had one night but had booked a Privilege Room. Wi-fi did not work there so, as I needed to complete some work, we moved to a normal room. Absolutely fine. Glad we did not have any larger luggage. Staff we met were very friendly and more than happy to keep luggage on last day and ordered a taxi for us. Would use again.

Good location (near two subway stations of different lines), but still pretty silent and cozy. Bedroom is comfortable in spite of the mini size, just like the bathroom. For a couple with two medium-big bags, the moving dinamic can get a little annoying sometimes.
