Booked into the hotel through the Accor A-Club scheme with a good discount, based on the location and reviews on here for when the hotel was under previous management I was quite confident in our choice. It wasn't an awful hotel and it takes a lot for me to complain BUT here goes..
Found the hotel no problem whatsoever. I know Paris quite well and the hotel is just minutes off of the Champs Elysees. Check in was efficient and the member of staff very friendly. Got to out room, loved the character and French windows, the fabric on the walls although the carpet let off quite a stale smell we just opened the windows and tried to ignore it..
Within ten minutes of arriving though we noticed that whenever the tap in the bathroom sink was running, the water would stream out of a leak in the pipe, soaking the floor and your feet. Immediately we phoned reception and a member of staff could see what we were talking about, said it was too late tonight to change our room but he would arrange for it to happen tomorrow. We told him we would be out all day from early in the morning, and he promised this would be no problem - that he would leave a note for his manager to arrange the next day.
So the next day we arrived back at the hotel in the evening, spoke to reception who knew nothing about our problem. They said it would be the next day now they could switch us. Fine, but we were only staying for three nights and two of those would be spent with towels mopping up water on the bathroom floor...
So the next morning we asked reception before leaving for a day's sightseeing (Bastille Day). They told us to pack our bags so we could transfer rooms very shortly. We waited and we waited, then there was a phonecall saying the room wasn't ready but as long as our bags were packed, they would trasfer them during the day. So it was midday before we left the hotel that day.
When we arrived back we had been transferred to a room in an annexe of the hotel, across a cortyard in an older building. The bannister for the windy staircase (there was no lift) was not even fixed to the floor in some places (so dangerous we couldn't believe it!). Our room had a buzzing air conditioner, the hair dryer socket was falling out of the wall with dangerous wiring exposed and there was ivy all around the windows (a ladybug fell in the room as soon as we opened the window).
We felt like we didn't have another two days to wait for another room so we just sucked it up and vowed not to spend much time in there. The next morning we told a very attentive and kind lady on reception we weren't happy, but her 'boss', in a shabby t shirt I think did not actually acknowledge any of our complaints.
I felt really let down by the whole experience. The hotel has the power to be so great but each of those small incidents just tainted our experience, but thankfully not our holiday overall.
