I have to say that this restaurant deserves to be ranked higher than it is!
We came in, exhausted but happy after a full day excursion to the Champagne district, and were hoping to get a table after having read at the Lonely Planet website about this place being a "carnivore in the kitchen" - and we were dying for a nice piece of meat.
And meat we got!
We chose to sit at the bar in this rather small reastaurant. This turned our to be a great seating since we had a chance to speak to the owner of the restaurant himself.
We started off with the house foie gras which was truly excellent and the best we've ever had. After this we ordered 1 kg meat (special outside the menu) which was cocked to perfection; a nice sear on the outside and beautifully rare throughout, as side orders crunchy, delicious french fries and a surprisingly tasty green sallad. We ended the meal with a wonderful hot chocolate fondant. The meal was accompanied by a very tastefull and affordable bottle of red wine recommended to us by the owner who surely knew his wines. I even have to say that the baguette to the foie gras and the coffee to the dessert also were great, given that theese two components are of varying quality throughout restaurants in Paris.
The atmosphere was truly genuine with a rather young, mainly parisian, clientele and with a very friendly and openhearted staff. We had a wonderful night at L'Aller Retour and a delicious meal and when we arrive back in Paris we will definitely go back!
We truly recommend anyone who is a foodlover and wants an enjoyable and intimate eating experience that stimulates your taste buds to go to L'Aller Retour.
Thank you Olivier - and your service minded staff!
