My wife and I always prefer S Germain des Pres for our Paris visits. The location is terrific - close to museums, cathedrals and shopping. The rooms and elevators are small, but the ambience is terrific. Many rooms are covered in wonderful toile. They are quiet and comfortable. Many have quite large bathrooms, and we have alwasy found the beds comfortable. The breakfast provided is modest but always tasty. For the price we do not think there is a better place to stay in Paris. We will never forget one Christsmas eve with fresh snow as we went to church right across the street at S Germain des Pres and then had an unforgettable late night meal as a "bistro zinc" within the block. An easy walk the next day for Tartuffe and Le CId at the Comedie Francaise. Where else is there holiday theater?! This hotel is very much a part of many many Paris memories. We can't wait until our next visit!

Room Tip: ask for a room with a large bath.

Location Location. Just a block and half from St. Germaine. Lots of great shops and restaurants.
Our room on the 3rd floor, was small, however, we had room for everything. Nice bath. We faced
on Rue Bonaparte, not much noise at all. The front desk staff excellent. The breakfast room and breakfast very excellent. I like eggs, was able to have soft boil eggs everyday. Excellent coffee.
I will stay again at Hotel Saint Germain des Pres.

Room Tip: room on 3rd floor, faced on Rue Bonaparte and end of the small hall. There were two rooms before th...

Be warned that single rooms are on level 6 and the very tiny lift only goes to level 5. You are not supposed to have much baggage ... fine for a light overnighter (which I was not)! Helpfully I was relocated to level 1 but it was an inside room which is very disorientating with jetlag! It was tidy and the ensuite fine. For the price quite good and the location an easy walk to the river and Musee d'orsay as well as to the Luxembourg gardens in the other direction. Lots of excellent cafes and restauraunts nearby, with a good one for breakfast right next door. I think it was good value for the money but don't expect too much ... you're here to see Paris not for the hotel room! And yes, you can hear the metro, so take earplugs and appreciate the convenient location.

Room Tip: Spend a bit more and get a better room or save and put up with it!

If you are looking for Left Bank accomodations, you truly cannot get a better location than this small property on Rue Bonaparte. Can walk to all the major sights on the Left Bank and enjoy a longer but very pleasant stroll across the river to the Right Bank. Metro stop is on the block for longer distances. Restaurants ,cafes, street markets are in abundance any direction you walk. Monoprix store is close by to purchase food, clothes other miscellaneous items at reasonable prices for longer stays. Rooms in hotel are very small but nicely appointed with updated bathrooms, some with tubs upon request. Being able to open a window from a room overlooking Rue Bonaparte captures for us the essence of the Left Bank of Paris. You're in the heart of the 6th but without noise or congestion. If you need lots of amenities, this would not be the place for you, but if you like small and want to feel like a local this hotel can't be beat. Service is tremendous. We have stayed here many times over the years and Dominique and Richard, in particular, have been constants, helpful with every type of request, particularly important since we do not speak French well. Love the breakfast! This is our home away from home while in Paris.

Room Tip: If you're okay with a very small room, request one overlooking Rue Bonaparte, windows are well...

My husband and I visited in September of last year and should have written a review sooner. We have friends in London who recommended this hotel and it was for all the right reasons. Service, location and a very reasonably priced hotel in the heart of the city. We love to walk and you could walk or take the metro anywhere easily. The Louvre was just a few blocks away, the Eiffel tower not terribly far away and the Champs d'Elysees close by as well. There is a very authentic jazz club just a few blocks away. Although we only stayed two nights we visited both nights, the music was well worth it. The man at the front desk told us about the department store not too far that carries anything from clothes to wine and food. It's a worthwhile find if you want to bring back gifts or take something back to your room!

Fab location. Quirky rooms. Clean but ours was compact. Would recommend it as a very good place to stay, as it is near to lovely restaurants and shops. We stayed here for 3 nights and had no complaints.

We stayed at this hotel in April 2013 - our room was small but absolutely charming overlooking Rue Bonaparte. The staff were wonderful, especially Madame Dominique who helped us with tours and restaurants and how to find the shop "Anne Fontaine". The breakfast was excellent and delivered to our room for no extra charge.
The location was perfect - a short walk to access buses and metro. Even though we are senior travellers, it was possible to walk to Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle, Musee d'Orsay etc etc. Plenty of restaurants cafes in the area. There was no noise at night - we slept with the casement window ajar.
The hotel really made us feel we were in Paris!
