We spent 4 nights at the Hotel Henri IV in Paris. Had a 5th floor walk-up room (there are no elevators). Booked months ago and still ended up with a room with a sink and shower, but the toilet was in the hall. The location is fabulous - walkability to most major tourist sites. The room was spotlessly clean. However, the bed was horribly soft and lumpy with a sag in the middle, as were the pillows. The included breakfast consisted of 1/3 of a baguette, a packet of butter, and either coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Indisputably the worst (most meagre) breakfast of anywhere we stayed over the 3 weeks we toured Europe. Sheets and towels weren't changed while we were there. Based on my sore back and stiff neck, I would not recommend this hotel. The location just isn't worth the discomfort. No Internet, no minifridge, no AC.

Stayed here 25 years ago and again recently...not much has changed including the breakfast, which was identical to the old days. I love the hotel for the value and location and for all else that makes it an old style Paris hotel. Don't expect plush or new, but it is clean enough, and big enough to make it a very acceptable stay in a great city. If you only enjoy traditional chain style hotels don't stay here, but I think you'd be missing out on a great experience.

This hotel is short walking distance to the Metro stations and Notre Dame. It is not cheap but good value for its location. Our room is on the forth floor which costs 86 Euro (Room No. 15). Nice comfortable bed and pillows. Good attached hot and cold shower and toilet facilities. There's a wardrobe, a small desk and two chairs in the room. There's no air-conditioning or fridge or tea-making facilities. Anyway we don't need air-conditioning as the temperature was very nice when we were there (End of May). There's no lift, but we were okay with walking up and down the stairs. If you are not keen on climbing stairs, then book a room at the lower floor. There are lots of fine restaurants nearby on the island (Isle De La Cite) itself. A lot of the famous Berthillon ice cream shops nearby.

Friendly staff gave us helpful information of Paris and help us to book a taxi for us to bring us to the airport in the early morning at 5am as the Metro and the train to the airport starts operating only after 5.30am. There are buses going to the airport in the early hours but we still need to take the Metro or a taxi to the bus station, and by taking a taxi directly to the airport save us to go through this hassle.

The driver is on time and it costs less than 45 Euro on the meter. The journey from the hotel to the airport without traffic took about 35 minutes.

We think it is a good value and friendly hotel to stay for a few nights in Paris to explore Paris.

Hope you have a nice stay too.

Room Tip: Room No. 15 on the forth floor is good.

We stayed here for 8 nights and to be honest that is to long for this hotel. this was just a small room with a bed (our had on suit) and a basic breakfast. there is no internet and no fridge in the room it can get very noisy in the square but this would be expected with there lifestyle. also if you have trouble with stars there is no lift and you will need to carry your luggage up the stars, im shore the staff would help if you were not able.

all in all for a short term stay this hotel would be a top choice and price for Paris seems reasonable

Room Tip: They tell you to use a cafe about 10 min walk away for internet, but go to McDs on Ru De Rivioli its...

The Hotel Henri IV is the perfect spot in the perfect city. Sure you have 80 or so narrow steps to navigate to get to the top floor, but where else can you see Paris and get a great deal? The square surrounding the hotel is lovely and the staff is great.

I've been in Paris in March 2012 with my wife and we stayed at Henri IV. It has been a perfect and awesome experience, the hotel staff are very helpful and polite and always welling to help you with tourist information. I really recommend this hotel for young couples and families. I am from Brazil and all the negotiation and booking were done by phone or emails. Very good place and cheep place to stay in Paris down town and you can walk away to many tourist places and have a good view of the Senna river and Eiffel tower.
Thank you Hotel Henri IV.

Room Tip: Rooms from 2nd or 3rd floor.

If this is your first b&b in Europe then you may get a bit of a shock - wobbly, winding wooden stairs speaking of an earlier age, old chipped breakfast tables - but: comfortable rooms and likeable and helpful staff who tolerate guests' broken French (and speak perfect English anyhow), lend them books to read or interpret postcards. This has become my favourite place to stay. First morning, threw open the window and here were the sounds of Paris, the children playing, the drill of nearby building works, traffic further off, someone whistling their friend - and a little white dog going from tree to tree in la place below, straight out of Tati's 'Mon Oncle.' Couldn't be improved upon. And such a bargain price.

Room Tip: I was lucky to have a first floor room but others had many stairs to climb. The hotel staff advise...
