“Staff problems and noise”
Reviewed December 11, 2005

This was our second stay at the Lutece. On both occasions we found the hotel itself to be full of charm and character. Sure the rooms are small but that's not unusual for Paris, at least they are well arranged and don't feel cramped, the bathrooms are better than many I've seen too. HOWEVER on the send night of our stay we were kept awake by a persistent very low-pitch hum. The night guy on the desk made some effort to see what he could do, to no avail. We eventually figured out ourselves that the noise was highly localised and we ended up having to drag the bed to a different part of the room away from the noise, even this was only partially effective. When we checked out the following morning the guy on the desk knew nothing of our complaints overnight, and was relatively indifferent, but did reveal that they have problems with noisy neighbours playing music - worth knowing about! I don't know why the noise didn't keep us awake the first night, but the second night was unbearable and I wouldn't take the risk of staying in this hotel again even though it is well placed, charming, and relatively good value (except for breakfast).

We've just returned from three nights' stay at the Hotel de Lutece, and we'd be delighted to go back. In truth, it's not the hotel itself that was so amazing as the location on Ile-St-Louis. What a convenient place to be, an easy walk to Notre Dame, the Left Bank, le Marais. And the island itself is charming, with a main street filled with interesting shops, good restaurants, and the ice creams from Berthillon!

As for the hotel, we credit it foremost with being able to accommodate us when we arrived at 9:30 in the morning after an overnight flight. We had expected that they'd at least store our bags, but our room was ready, and they quickly got us checked in and our bags brought up. We knew that Paris rooms couls be small, but our room on the top floor was, well, roomy. It looked out on rooftops, and the Centre Pompidou was just visible in the distance. The washroom was similarly large.

Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't opt for the breakfast at the hotel as it was fun to wander in search of food, so we cannot comment on that.

We're now keen to go back in warmer weather. When we do return to Paris, the Hotel de Lutece will be a strong contender for where we'll stay.

We stayted here Oct 6-12 and were very pleased with our room. We were on the 3rd floor facing the street. The room was small by American standards but average by European standards. The bathroom was very nice w/double sinks and tub & shower, very roomy. The towels were large and fluffy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We ate at the hotel 2 of the 5 days that we were there and found the croissants, jam, bread, juice and coffee very good. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again. The location was wonderful and we felt very safe walking the streets at night.

We stayed from Oct 1-3 and loved it! The rooms are small but the bathrooms are nice sized and very clean. We were in 111 and 114. 111 has a nice view out to the street. The staff was very attentive, and recommended an incredible resturant. The best part is the location. You are on a street w/ a Market downstairs, a creamery across the street, a bakery a few doors down, the butchers down the other way, an ATM one block up, 10 small botique shops and another 5-7 resturants. All on the same 3 blocks of street. VERY convienient. They said they served breakfast, but we never bothered, w/ the bakery and cafe's so close. Crepes and croisants for breakfast! Well worth the modest 164Euros a night.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in late September and had a wonderful time. We were in Room 661 (top floor -- the lift goes to the 5th floor, and then there is small, winding staircase to the 6th floor), which overlooked the rooftops of Paris. The room was larger than I expected, based on reviews -- we had a double bed, table with two chairs, desk, and there was also a rollaway bed tucked under the eaves. The room had dark wooden beams and bright, cheerful duvet and curtains. The bathroom was spotless and modern, and had a built-in hairdryer. Hotel staff was helpful in making dinner reservations for us. We booked the hotel via email and confirmed the reservation about a month out, which all seemed to go smoothly. We didn't take breakfast at the hotel, but the breakfast room looked tiny. The Ile St. Louis is an ideal location (close to Cite and Pont Marie metro stops) -- we didn't want to leave the island! Delicious chocolate shop right next door to the hotel, fromagerie across the street, several patisseries and little gourmet markets (including an all-foie-gras shop!), art galleries, and interesting shops. Our favorite meal on the island was at l'Îlot Vache -- some kitschy cows in the window, but lovely and romantic inside, with gorgeous flowers, candles, and gleaming copper pots -- great terrine, duck, seafood, and chocolate mousse. And we got engaged there!! But I would have loved it regardless. Overall, a spectacular vacation in Paris, enhanced by our experience at Hotel de Lutece.

We stayed for 11 nights and never had a problem. They have wireless internet access which is great. You can buy a meteor card for 25 Euros and you get 24 hours of access (it doesn't have to be all in a row as long as you log out every night) They are very close to just about everything in Paris since they are practically dead center. Notre Dame is about 2-3 short blocks away. The Metro stop Pont Marie is right across the river and with Chatelet one stop away you can basically get anywhere with minimal changing of trains (yet we reccommend avoiding Chatelet whenever possible due to the long tunnels, but anyway...) Since the hotel is on Ile St Louis it is smack in the center of dozens of great restaurants and food shops within very short walks including FROMAGER B. LEFRANC who has the greatest cheese and is a joy to talk to. The hotel is just few short blocks from La Taverne de la Sergent Recruteur, our new favorite restaruant and Amorino gelati which while not as famous as the Berthillon ice cream was just as good and open much later! There is a "super marche" right next door for those late night cravings or random picnic supplies that you might have missed at one of the specialty shops.

The staff speaks english. Our room #223 which was on the 3rd floor had exposed wood beams on the ceiling and faced a little courtyard rather than the street, so noise was at a minimum. It was a little bit small, but we are used to that in europe and the double consisted of 2 twin beds pushed together(which was kind of nice since one person tossing and turning did not disturb the other). On the other hand, the bathroom was really large in comparison and had awesome water pressure and a hair dryer. There was also a safe in our room and air conditioning. FYI There IS an elevator, but it is tiny, so most days we just used the stairs.

If we can afford the rates 164 per night in Sept 05 we would definitely love to stay at Hotel De Lutece again in the future.

I just returned from a five-night stay at Hotel de Lutece. It was a wonderful experience! From the moment of check in, I found the staff very, very friendly, helpful, and eager to exceed the bounds of expectation. The room was ready, was very clean, and provided all the amenities you might need or desire. Communicating with the staff in English did not pose a problem.

Location, as other guests have written, was indeed superior. It was easy to feel comfortable in the neighborhood as well as the hotel. But added to this was the joy of so many attractions being close by for easy access. Walking along the Seine to the museums, the Eiffel Tower, the Champs Elysses, and other interesting sites afforded a special pleasure!

It was a delightful getaway, and I shall not soon forget how this hotel and this area filled my heart with a special feeling for Paris.
