My wife and I, in our 70s, stayed in this hotel for six nights in May 2012. Our double-bed room was small but with a lot of storage and excellent modern bathroom. The hotel itself is tiny, facing the narrow, elegant, interesting, rue St-Louis-en-l'Ile, itself an attraction in its own right. The hotel lobby is engaging, with a sofa, armchairs and an open fire. The staff at reception were welcoming, charming and multilingual. At our request they recommended a restaurant in the Latin Quarter for dinner which was inexpensive, excellent quality and full of locals. They helped with the airport shuttle service. But, above all, the location of this hotel is perfect. You feel you own Notre Dame and Isle de la Cite, with a broad footbridge connecting the two islands at the end of the street. The Marais, St. Paul, Bastille, St Germain and the Latin Quarter are very short strolls away. Buses and the No. 1 metro are close by across Pont Marie for trips further afield. Isle St Louis is itself a beautiful, island with ancient apartment buildings. The cafes are good, with some being excellent. The very best meal, and one of the least expensive we have ever had in Paris came from a tiny restaurant in rue St-Louis-en-l'Ile which was very hard to book and has now, very regrettably, closed down.
Hotel de Lutece gave us the most glorious Paris in the springtime experience imaginable. If and when we return to Paris we will move heaven and earth to stay there again.
