Was lucky enough to visit Paris years ago at the tail end of a business trip - had 2.5 days to cram in all the sights. The Pantheon was the first place we visited - remember looking at the HGH and its sister properties and thinking "If I ever get back here, that's where I'm staying."

Fast forward - after saving for 3 years and planning for nearly a year, we just came back from an amazing vacation. And guess where we spent the 7 night Paris leg of our trip? The HGH - the hotel that I'd had my eye on all those years ago!

It was a wonderful experience. The hotel is well-located - near a major landmark (but one that is quiet in the evenings and mornings.) You're also very close to many metro/RER stations and cafes/restaurants.

The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They didn't make me feel self-conscious when I tried out my "tres" rusty high school/college French and they spoke excellent English.

Our room (room 15 - Jr. Suite) was large, comfortable and had a very French feel. It looks out on an inner courtyard with access to a little table and chairs (didn't take advantage of that due to the cold, rainy weather but certainly would have if it had been a different time of the year. )

It had a queen size bed, a pull out sofa in a little nook (perfect place to curl up and read), an amazing bathroom (lovely tub, killer shower, towel rack and warm floors) and good wireless service. It was quiet and we slept very well and the room was very clean.

We took advantage of the breakfast twice (one on Christmas day for convenience (wasn't sure what would be open) and again several days later, because our Christmas day experience was so good) - the setting was lovely and the quality of the food was good. The jams were amazing and the filtered coffee (a rarity in Europe) was very good. The wait staff was friendly and efficient.

We used the private car service on our return to CDG (spendier than the RER but a no hassle way to get where you're going.)

HGH was awesome - the best hotel of this trip and of our separate respective previous trips to Europe.

We highly recommend this hotel and would book it again in a heartbeat upon returning to Paris.

Many thanks to the HGH staff for making our time there so wonderful!

Room Tip: The junior suites are larger and the courtyard rooms are quiet.

Stayed for two nights in December and in a room overlooking the Pantheon. We had originally booked a standard room with a view of the courtyard but were offered an upgrade for half price a couple of weeks before our stay. View of the pantheon was nice, however they are doing works on it which kind of ruined the view a little bit. Makes me wonder if that's why they offered us the half price upgrade. The room itself was divided into 3 areas, a little hall-way, the bathroom and the main bedroom. The rooms were really nicely decorated with a kind of provincial french look going on. The main room it self was a bit on the small side. We barely had enough room to put our suitcases on the floor between the bed and the desk.
We had the breakfast one morning. The room for breakfast was in the basement of the hotel and looked almost like a cosy little cave, very nice area. However we were a little disappointed with breakfast. We paid 20 euros per person and all we were given were three little pastries, some jams, a tea or coffee and a juice. Considering the morning before we had gone to a little cafe and had breakfast for the two of us (3 large pastries, juice and coffee) and that only cost for 12 euros the two of us we felt breakfast was a huge rip-off.
Hotel location is good. The Pantheon is right out the front door and there is a street just around the corner with a few restaurants and cafes. The Catacombs, Notre Dame and Gare de Lyon station were all about a 30 minutes walk from the hotel, in different directions.
Very nice little hotel, would probably stay there again.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for choosing the Hotel des Grands Hommes for your last Parisian stay and for having taken time to review on it.

We rae pleased to propose up-grade when availability allows it. We know how eye-catching is the view on the pantheon, upon Paris, to the Sacre-Coeur.

Our classic French breakfast at 13€ is composed of a hot drink & fruit juice, croissants & bread, daily ham & butter, dried fruits & a daily home-made smoothie. All these products are local and fresh. As you otice, there are several coffee shops around, that is why I decided to discount breakfast of 50% from the secon day..
We propose as well different formula (with ham & goat cheese.. at 10€ or with cereals, yogurt, fruit.. at 9€) in addition to à la carte : home-made omelette...

When you wish come back, please contact me tget you the best room & rate available.

Best wishes for 2014!

On the plus side, the hotel is nicely located and comfortable and our room during a 3 night stay in October 2013 was on the top floor and commanded a fabulous view of the Pantheon in the foreground and toward Sacre Coeur on the far side of Paris. On the other hand, the hotel was not particularly cheap, considering the absence of any services, and did not endear itself to us by charging 7 euros for a boiled egg for breakfast delivered to our room.

Dear Sir,

many thanks for taking the time to write about the Hôtel des Grands Hommes, although we can’t help feeling the title of your review is a little harsh on us.

As you say yourself, the hotel does have incredible views over the rooftops of Paris, and we can assure you that our breakfast prices are no dearer than those in the area - this is the heart of the left bank in Paris, after all.

Also, a lot of care has been taken in devising the hotel’s breakfast selection, with top quality products delivered and prepared daily. We believe the food we serve for breakfast is not only delicious, but also reasonably-priced. Although nearby cafés may seem appealing, you will soon find that the quality of food and service is not comparable. Just reading through our breakfast menu should get your mouth watering, and we hope you’ll try it next time you stay!

Kind regards,

I stayed in the hotel for 6 nights, it was one of the best I visited in Paris.
Staff was extremely helpful and welcoming, hotel was clean, quiet and nice. Gave us great recommendations for food around the hotel, and went out of their way to help.
Great location, in the middle of the Latin Quarter, with a lot of restaurants and cafes near by.
Rooms are a little small, but that's common in Paris.
Would not recommend breakfast there, as it was pretty expensive, and there are a lot of good cafes nearby.

We'd shopped online for a quiet hotel with good access from the airport. The HGH was the accommodation highlight of our two weeks in Europe. This is a spotlessly clean option with upscale decor located near the Luxembourg RER. With light baggage we made the three block walk from the station and opted for a room with a view of the Pantheon after consulting with Mathieu at reception.

Yes, rooms are not large but sensible storage, separated toilet from spacious bath, and high ceilings make it quite comfortable. It was perfect for our three night stay. Very little traffic noise since the hotel sits on the quiet parking and lightly traveled plaza surrounding the Pantheon.

Reception is efficient, commands perfect English, and is happy to offer recommendations including advice for nights when there are fewer restaurant options. We also found several good brasserie and cafe options in the neighborhood.

If there is any downside it might be the distance to Metro. Cardinal Lemoine and Rue Monge are the closest but Luxembourg RER and bus lines are quite close. The walk through Jardin du Luxembourg is quite pleasant and you're poised with the Latin Quarter below you and the tourist-clogged Rue Mouffetard nearby.

Room Tip: Rooms on the courtyard (which we'd initially chose) are even quieter but smaller. We opted for a...

This is a good option for a short stay in Paris . We got a good deal from the hotel for last minute availability. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. The room was comfortable but quite small. Even the larger rooms where not much bigger. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious and very clean. The room was quiet . We skipped paying for the hotel breakfast as there are many cheaper options in the area for similar. Really enjoyed our stay at the Grands Hommes . Only complaint is the lack of coffee or tea in the machine in the room , this should be included for the price payed in an hotel of this standard.

Indeed, we are a 3 star hotel, but with a real 4 star standard.

The classic breakfst is at 13€. During December, the second one is billed 7€...instad of 13€. This promotion is to make discover our guests, our local & quality breakfast products.
We added few month ago, with no exta charge, a daily home-made fresh smoothie at this breakfast.
We propose as well a formula at 9€ (cereals, yoghurt, fruit...), a formula at 10€ (ham, goat cheese, bead...), and of course à la carte : home-made omelette & scrambled eggs, a large variety of fruits...

I was in Paris for business and was fortunate to be able to have a hotel of this calibre so close to a variety of just about everything one needs or wants when visiting Paris. The staff were extraordinarily welcoming and the rooms were extremely quiet. The interior of my room was well maintained and spacious. The beds appear to have the smart foam mattress, which was an interesting experience. I would definitely recommend this hotel. It is also easy to get to from RER B (Charles de Gaulle and Gare du Nord).
