“Great location, helpful staff, modern plumbing.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2012

It took me a week to secure a hotel booking in Paris for my June 2012 vacation. L'hotel du Quai Voltaire was recommended in an old travel book. I stayed there for four nights with two friends in a double room turned into a triple by the addition of a cot. The beds were comfortable (the cot adequate). The room featured three chairs and a largish table, plus a wardrobe with shelves and a clothes rod. Called a "courtyard" room, it faced an airshaft -- not scenic, but adequate for air and for hanging hand laundry. The bathroom was large and contained a combination shower and tub with a good supply of hot water. The best things about this hotel are its location -- right on the river on the Left Bank, walking distance from the Musee D'Orsay and the Louvre -- and the friendly, helpful hotel staff. I would stay here again happily. There is a small elevator. The hotel has a breakfast option for 10 Euros, which I did not exercise, preferring to walk to the Eric Kayser bakery on the nearby Rue de Bac.

Room Tip: If you want a river view, ask for a room facing the street.

As all the good reviews of this hotel say it's greatest selling point is location, location, location. The views from our room were simply stunning. No other words can describe looking out over the Seine at the Louvre & Jardin du Tuileries. All the major attractions are within easy reach, mostly on foot.

But behind that is a very nice small hotel with very friendly staff. We found them really helpful &, as others say, just trying a little French helps. The hotel has a small salon & at the end of a days walking we loved sitting with a good book & a bottle of the house red (€13 in Paris! bargain & very passable).

As with every Parisian hotel we've stayed in the rooms are not big, but you get what you pay for. Our's was very clean & for the time we spent in it more than adequate.

Would we go back? Oh, yes indeed. We'll be there again this year & we can't wait.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have such a great view.

What a great location. The opposite bank from the Louvre and the views. the staff were all friendly & helpful especially if you tried to speek some French. We walked to nearly all the attractions we saw, unfortunately it does tend to rain when you least expect it. You are also close to the metro. The rooms may be small but this is typical of the quaint French hotels. You only sleep there so it makes litttle difference. we spent 10 wonderful days enjoying the sites & hospitality. i would recommend it to anyone.

I would consider this a quaint hotel decorated in traditional French style. Most of the staff are very friendly and the room was definitely sufficient for the small amount of time we actually stayed in the room. For two people it would have been great but we were traveling with our teenage daughter and they simply added a cot which made things a little tight, But hey traveling is an adventure right? The location is amazing! We walked over the bridge to the Louvre, through the park, up the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe, then down to the Eiffel tower and back on the first day. My suggestion would be to catch the 'les cars rouge' double decker bus and use it to see all the sights first, then use it as a regular bus to take you to the parts of Paris you want to go for more in-depth touring. There are a couple of cafes for morning repais, one to the left and one to the right and the restaurant ' Le Fregate' two blocks away was priced relatively reasonably and the food the best we had in Paris. We would definitely stay here again.

My sister and I stayed here last summer 2011. I have to say we couldn't have been more pleased with the location and the view from our room of the Seine River and the Louvre. You can even people watch from the balcony. We took a tiny table and a chair and stool on to the balcony one evening for cocktails and pate. Behind it in walking distance is The Latin Quarter and St. Germaine districts. The staff were friendly, but please remember to speak your French greetings as is the polite custom. The continental breakfast they bring to your room is the perfect start to the day. We often brought fruit and pastries at nearby shops to add to it. The restaurant serves breakfast in the morning and is a lounge in the evening. No dinners or lunches. It is a small and quaint room, nothing fancy, but we loved it. I would go back and plan to .

Room Tip: Book facing the Seine and Louvre if you don't mind a bit of street noise. Ask to be up high and...

This is a small traditional hotel opposite the Louvre almost next to the Musee D'Orsay and easy walking distance of many other museums and monuments. It was very clean, the staff were polite and helpful. It had central heating which dried my clothes and umbrella (it rained a lot). The breakfast could be bought cheaper elsewhere but by the time the tip was added it worked out about the same. Plus the hotel juice was better and it served coffee in pots that gave 3 cups. The hotel lacks modern 'extras' but for a short break they were not missed. I was only on the 2nd floor and heard no noise at all because the windows are double glazed. I would choose to stay in this hotel again.

Agree with many that the hotel was very good, and clean. Location was really the best thing that could have happened for a short trip. Within walking distance of Louvre, Orsay, Notre Dame, Latin Quarter. Shower was a bit small but adequate. View was close to perfect overlooking the Seine and the Louvre. We spent four nights there. The weather did not cooperate so we could not sit out side as many suggested we do when in Paris. Did not see as many pastry or cheese shops as expected.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Seine, top floor if possible.
