This Arc is situated by the Gardens and the Louvre. We were finishing up our visit of the Louvre and saw this mini Arc of Triumph. I don’t know the reason for its existence but I will look it up when I have some free time. It is very neat and wasn’t crowded when we visited at the end of June.

Thank Daniel A

Beauty & History all in one.. This is why you must visit Paris.. Opposite the pyramids of the Louvre, across the street.. Great during the day, but stunning at night.. You can't stop looking at it..

This iconic structure in Paris is a place you can never miss. Walking distance to Tour Eiffel, the Champs Elysee's, etc... This Arc was once a symbol of the strength of the soldiers who made France the number 1 nation during its time.

We were unaware of this Arch until we unexpectedly came across it while heading for the gardens next to the Louvre. It is located across from the glass pyramid at the Louvre and has very easy access in a pedestrian only area. Not to be confused with the famous Arc de Triomphe de l’Etoile (as some reviews below seem to indicate), this is about half the size but just as impressive. It was constructed in 1804-1806 to commemorate Napoleon‘s victories. It has a central arch with smaller arches on either side, unlike the more famous Arch. There are 8 marble columns in Corinthian style, 4 on each side, each topped by a statue of a soldier. It was inspired by the triumphal Roman arch of Septimus Severus. Between the columns are beautiful bas-reliefs in rose marble depicting important historic people or events. On top is a statue of Peace riding in a chariot, which appears to be a copy of Horses of Saint Mark, a statue above the main door at Saint Mark’s Basilica in Venice. With easy access it offers great photo opts. It is in line with the obelisk from Luxor and the more famous Arch, both of which are visible. Beautiful work of art to be appreciated.

Just opposite the glass pyramid at The Louvre this smaller Arc de Triomphe is worth the detour. Stunning and less crowded and easy to find!
