“Always busy with locals drinking at the outside tables”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

We stayed in this area for a week and every time we walked past this restaurant the outside tables were full and buzzing with local people. It is in a residential area behind the Sacre Coeur, a few minutes walk downhill. We enjoyed a meal here one evening, I had the ribs caramelized in balsamic vinegar, with broccoli puree and fried lettuce which was 17 euros and was delicious. My son's beef steak was a slightly disappointing cut (gristle) and cost 21 euros.

Would recommend, most people seem to come here to drink outside but the food was mostly good.

“Very good choice for a break in Montmatre”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Place was nice and in a very good location. Not expensive, and with many options for your tea or coffee break. I’ve posted a couple of pictures for you to see.

“Fantastic value in Montmartre”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

We headed back to our Montmartre apartment after a visit to Sacre Coeur planning to grab a sandwich at a local boulangerie for lunch, but happened on Au Relais en route. I had seen several good reviews for it, so we opted for our main meal in the middle of the day and were completely delighted with the dejeuner formule at this charming eatery.

For less than fifteen dollars each, we enjoyed an entree, plat and wine. My meal was an eggplant soup, followed by a charcuterie tarte with a large salad. My husband selected the feuillete (phyllo dough layered with thinly sliced meat, cheese, veggies; came with salad) and the steak and potatoes plat. Our 2 euro glasses of merlot were a perfect accompaniment to the meal. Everything tasted even better with first-rate baguette and crusty raisin bread as well.

Our server was friendly and efficient and, when things got busy around 1:30 or so, and we wanted to pay the bill, the young man at the bar came to our nearby table and processed that for us. We had a lovely chat with a local at the table next to ours; for all that the staff spoke excellent English, most of the patrons of the restaurant the day we were there were speaking French.

Au Relais was easy to like, as well as easy on the pocketbook. Recommended.

“Good value food in beautiful setting off the tourist track”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

My mother and I stopped off at Au Relais after a visit to the Sacre Coeur. And what a find it was! Well away from the tourist trail of the Place du Tertre, we felt like we'd stepped in to eat with the locals. I had a cheese burger and my mother had a quiche. The portions were generous, the wine good value, the service speedy and friendly - all for an extremely reasonable price. Will definitely be back!
