Owner description: In the oldest house on the hill of Montmartre lived fourteen personalities, among whom Renoir, Valadon, Dufy and Poulbot. Take a step back in time to the glory days of this independent and bohemian quarter through original works by Utrillo, Toulouse-Lautrec and Willette at the Montmartre Museum. The gardens and the atmosphere have a rustic feel to them, making this is a very special site in the heart of Paris.

“exhibition Chat Noir and gardens”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

Spectacular exhibition dealing with the importance of the cabaret chat noir and Montmartre for the art and literature in Europe at the turn of the 19th century. The renovated gardins invoke the period when Renoir and artists lived and worked in the buildings of the museum.

“A fine addition for a day at Montmartre”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

We decided to spend a few hours exploring Montmatre area. We had visited previously but had wanted to return. The Musee is small and charming; it is located on a street near Sacre Couer and has housed several artists and writers. The Exhibit there now, Le Chat Noir, is very interesting and enjoyable. It traces the history and experience of the cafe and night life of the area - we loved the whol experience of the museum, including a look at the wine vines. Put this on your list along with the Dali Museum

“Very interesting”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

I was there for the Black Cat exhibit and it was very well organized and curated. Everything was translated in English and it was very informative. The museum itself is quaint and on a quiet side-street away from the main hustle and bustle of Montramartre.

“A must in Montmartre”
Reviewed September 2, 2012 via mobile

Excellent small museum with garden which gives an insight into the history of Montmartre. An English audio guide is included in the entry price, and there is information in English, though the translation is a bit ropey! Good value and a must visit if you are in Montmarte.

“Living of Renoir”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

Just considered this as a very sympathic museum which give a good image of Montmartre his artists and cabarets. It was also the stay of Renoir. You also can find some paintings of these times. I was very pleased with this - not that crowded - museum. The staff was also very friendly. The only reason why I don't give a five is because I consider 8 euros a bit lot for a rather small museum (audioguide included). I can imagine myself it's nice to do with kids, if you want to run away a bit of the pression of tourists at montmartre.
