“Quiet place”
Reviewed May 8, 2012

This commanding building is worthy of a visit. Not only is it in a good location for passers by, but its sheer size will draw you in. The time we visited, it was quite peaceful compared to the busy traffic outside. From the leaflets at the back of the church, it appears they have concerts here which if we'd known would like to have attended. If you like time to reflect whilst on the move go here.

“Gorgeous church with beautiful marble angels”
Reviewed April 17, 2012

We visited thus church today to find an orchestra of teenagers from Perth, Australia playing to a large audience and they were a treat! Seated in front of the angels, all lit up, it looked super.
I like this church because it seems loved and well looked after. It is inthe vicinity of an art gallery, Fauchon, Kenzo and Massimo Dutti to name but a few places, shops of interest. It's a nice square.

“Excellent concerts and a beautiful interior.”
Reviewed April 13, 2012

The Madeleine Church (Église de la Madeleine), at the Place Madeleine, has wonderful free concerts on some Sunday afternoons at 4p. The music may be choral or the Grand Organ, or a combination of the two. All we have heard have been great, but some have been extraordinary, especially when the Grand Organ is played. On this trip we enjoyed an superb performance by the Chamber Choir of St-Paul's School (London) - Ryan Hepburn, organ, and Peter Gritton, Director.

Two familiar names on the list of organists are Camille Saint-Saens (1858-1877) and Gabriel Faure (1896-1905). A performance of Saint-Saens’ Danse macabre played on the Madeleine organ was the most spectacular organ concert we have ever heard.

The church also has many other concerts that have broad appeal and they generally are in the evening with a range of prices. On any day and at any time that the church is open, it is worth a visit to see the inside, which features many sculptures and an impressive fresco in the dome above the altar.
