A wonderful area to walk after you cross the bridge from Notre Dame. Charming buildings and window shopping as well as a few cafes where you can stop in. Not too much traffic and more calm than strolling many other neighborhoods in Paris.

La Brasserie de l'Isle St Louis is peerless for genuine Brasserie food. Similar perhaps to Chez Renee in Boulevard St Germain. We ate lunch here on two successive days and were delighted withg the setting, the location, the food and the service. You can watch proper, unflustered and experienced waiters cope calmly as fifty diners suddenly flood through the doors, and you can be sure this doesn't mean your meal will be late. They know their business here. Eat on the terrace and get a fantastic view and ration of people-watching or inside in an eclectic, dark panelled bar. The food is a catalogue of Alsatian cooking as well as old favourites. Prices are very reasonable and this is a Scotsman talking !

If you have time to just relax in Paris then just spend an afternoon here. Have lunch at one of the cafes, some with a view over to the Notre Dame, otherwise just sit along the Seine with a picnic and watch the world go by.

I head for Ile St.-Louis whenever I get to Paris. It's tiny and crammed with galleries and interesting shops (check out Pylones for inexpensive and whimsical gadgets, such as a staple remover that is an alligator head). The inhabitants are friendly and sometimes also whimsical - see the photo! I enjoy wandering about and having lunch here - and the views of Notre Dame are great!

Wondered through early evening and the area is lovely, had cocktails whilst people watching and think this is a really nice place to relax - not too touristy!
