“only the exhibit is open to the public”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

for only la brief moment a few years back was the city hall of paris open to the public, but someone attacked the mayor and it was closed again. I saw the latest exhibit there and it was called hollywood and paris, it was quite good and was FREE. so not a bad deal, but i wanted to see more of the place.

“Doesn't get the credit it deserves”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

This fabulous building is a real show stopper. We passed it many times (on the way to the Metro) and it never failed to impress. Perhaps because of its proximity to the Notre Dame or perhaps because Paris has so many extravagent and theatrical buildings, it just doesn't get the press and hype it deserves, but it really is a must-see. Very high on the "wow" scale.

“Only saw it from the outside...”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

The hotel (from the outside) is absolutely beautiful and a must-see. We didn't end up going inside, but found the outside (and the fountains outside) to be breathtaking!

“Like everything else, the Parisians know how to build a City Hall”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

L'hotel de ville is the Paris City Hall. Tours are run regularly and are free, but are in French only and must be reserved ahead of time. At the start of the tour they make sure your name is on the list as there are a limited number of people allowed on the tour. Although we are only allowed into a few of the grand rooms in the enormous building (we don't really see any working areas), they are magnificent in tasteful yet luscious opulence. Our tour guide was marvellous (her regular job is working for the city of Paris in publicity). Tour lasted an hour and the commentary was excellent. Even without the commentary, the 6 or so rooms we are allowed to visit are spectacular. On the outside, the building is another of the many magnificent buildings in Paris.

“C'etaient des enfants”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

In and of itself, the Hotel de Ville is a wonderful building. Currently there is an excellent expo on the deportation of the Jewish children of France in particular from Paris to " the camps ". This just happens to be the 70th anniversary of this horrible event. I think most people do not realize that approximately 1100+ Jewish children were taken to ". The camps " from Paris. The expo is well laid out, includes photos, identification documents, clothing, toys, art work and letters from these children.
