“Stayed because of Viking cruise...YUCK”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2012

I can't believe the reviews. This is the dirtiest, most unpleasant hotel I've stayed, perhaps ever!
After three nights I've walked past the same dirt in the halls. Common areas look like they have never seen a vacuum cleaner. No exaggeration. The furnishings are terribly worn and soiled. Staff looks miserable and when you ask question are met with a military-like answer. Not the treatment a guest would expect.

Issues in the room include crusted and stained carpeting. Broken furniture and lights (see photo). There was only one drawer in the entire room. Impossible layout! A/C does not work. Bathroom has rotten cracked and black with mold grout. The maid stacked 3 used rolls of TP rather than replacing the empties. Tile floors are black with dirt. I want to take a shower just walking on the floor.

Nickel and diming with the OUTRAGEOUS FEE for internet. Club sandwich in the restaurant is $30 Euro. The neighborhood is not upscale but very poor and run down. I just don't get why Viking would have an office here. It's a $#@@ hole.

In the U.S. it would be a 2 star. Nothing more.

I am sending Viking a letter complaining. The person who reps for Viking is nice but I don't care. This is a business relationship. The hotel was misrepresented by Viking. If you notice better reviews for the property, they either do not travel much or have low standards.

If you get anything out of this review, I hope it is to question Viking about their selection and arrangement for guests staying at the Crown. There was no priority for us to get checked in. IN FACT we were put on hold while others were allowed to check in early! Yes, I am mad.

Room Tip: Select a different hotel. The Crown is a pit.

Dear J D ,

We are sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations during your last stay with us and we would like to thank you for having taken the time to let us know.

Guest comments like yours are paramount for allowing us to focus our attention where guests’ feel it is necessary, but your comments are disappointing and borderline offensive.

• 24 hours a day we have a dedicated person who is cleaning the public areas. This person also picks up the metro tickets which are not thrown in the trash bin as a lack of respect for our staff and the environment.

• Yes the carpet stain can happen, when someone drops a coffee mug on the floor. The stain seems to be still wet and fresh. Besides shampooing all guest room carpets on a frequent basis internally, in addition the carpets of all our rooms are also deep cleaned twice a year by an outside company.

• Our air-conditioning system works perfectly well. Unfortunately during your stay you did not contact our maintenance team who would have immediately explained the system to you, even though the instructions are in English on the control panel of the air-condition system.

• On the picture we can see that the toilette papers were piled up by someone not working in our housekeeping department.

• We propose several different Internet rates. The lowest rate starts at €7.50 for one hour and this goes progressively up to our 24hours Internet & PayTV package for €23.

• We regret to hear that in another restaurant somewhere in Paris you had a Club Sandwich of €30! The club sandwich in our Restaurant “Le Dix” is €15.

• The staff from the Viking Cruise is very nice and helpful. It is a pitty that you did not address your concern to the Viking representative who of course would have contacted us, the management team of our hotel. It is our duty to find the best solution possible for satisfying your needs!

• Of course all our clients would like to have their rooms ready during the morning and check-out as late as possible. This is the reason why we sell our rooms with a check-in time starting earliest at 2pm and a check-out time the latest at midday, 12 o clock. Certainly, we provide the rooms as soon as they are ready to our clients who like to check-in early. It seems that the particular room type which you had reserved was not ready at your time of arrival and that other room types were available ! This explains why you had to wait and other clients could check-in !

By reading your review, we understand that maybe you were not aware that we have a Duty Manager or you did not take the time to contact our Duty Manager who is onsite 24/24 and 7days a week, while you were staying with us. This is unfortunate as we would have done everything for making sure that your stay would have been a memorable one !

Yours sincerely,

The Guest Relations Team

I would have preferred to stay in a nicer hotel, but this property was fine. Stayed for 4 nights with girlfriends in late June. It was hot & humid. The 1st two nights I stayed in room with 2 dbl beds no view, with a skylight and 2 medium sized attic like windows that opened. It was cute, but not as nice as I preferred. My other friends had a room w 2 twin beds w a HUGE dbl window that overlook the city street below, that was very nice. They did pay more for their room even tho' it had 2 twin beds. The last 2nts our air conditioner wasn't working - the maintance guy tore up the ceiling in the bathroom - so we were upgraded to a 2 dbl beds suite - still no view - but nicer & cleaner, with a bidet. If I would have spent all 4nts here I may have felt better about the hotel.

The lounge made a great "champagne mojito" - just about everybody spoke english & was friendly. There is a cute,Parisian bakery right around the corner, great for breakfast sandwiches, "u can ask them to heat them up". There is subway station right outside the door - but to be honest - it didnt look like something i would have wanted to go into - we never did. We took the bus or taxis everywhere. The area was very city - I felt safe - but if your not familiar this might not be the location for you. Also - there's a major, monumental traffic construction project right outside the front door, its awkard w taxis, traffic and walking. On my next visit to Paris I will stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: choose a room with a view of the city with double french windows - u can sit in the window at nite p...

My wife and teen grandson and I spent 7 nights here in late June. Flights and hotel were booked thru Delta Vacations and some reviews here had us wondering but it was a great experience! The only downside was a few front desk discussions about included breakfast (our Delta paperwork said "yes" but the hotel said "no".) They wanted me to straighten it out with our travel agent by phone, then said they would. I finally mentioned all this later to Kahina who fixed this instantly. It's nice when someone is empowered to make it right with the customer!
Anyhow a few points:
-Construction yes but get an courtyard room and you won't hear anything.
-Our 4th floor room was great (high windows are not an issue).
-The air conditioning was perfect in late June and we like it cool.
-Breakfast was good and plentiful. If you don't like it you are really picky!
-The location is fabulous. The main entrance is about 100 ft from 5 Metro lines. We went out and back every day and you don't need any other form of transportation. I didn't see any neighborhood better in a week and we went everywhere.
-LOTS of restaurants and a superb bakery within blocks. We never left the area for dinner.
-Join the CP Club before you go and get an hour of free WiFi in the lobby every day.
-Great bellman staff (Edgardo is a real asset with very good advice)
We wouldn't hesitate to return. If they ever get free WiFi in all rooms it would be perfect but I think the limitation actually made us experience more of Paris that otherwise!

Room Tip: Pick a courtyard exposure to eliminate street noise. The best elevators ever--never a wait!

Good location. Handy for sightseeing, and plenty of bars and restaurants close by.

The hotel was of a good standard and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We would stay again when next in Paris.

This is a good hotel option in a not so touristy area of paris, so you can watch the life go by whilst having the most delicious buffet breakfast. The room was ok, bed comfortable but decor in need of update as a bit shabby, also no wifi was irritating. Service was helpful, and the fact it was so close to the metro was perfect! if you wanted to walk, it was only a little walk to most central destinations and a nice walk too :)

Room Tip: ask for one not facing main street, as v noisy!

Comments like yours are an excellent and motivating tool for our team to ensure that we are able to always provide the highest of standards for our loyal guests.

First, this hotel has major major construction in the Republique square in front. Taxis cannot even drop you off or pick you up in front. They should say that to prospective clients. Second, the noise from the construction is substantial if you have a room facing the square and on lower level. The rooms are decently large for Paris and the air condition is great for those hot July days. They offer big, comfortable beds for family of 4 which is rare in Europe. My biggest issue is their customer service. I always use wake up call service since European hotels rarely provide alarm clocks. The first 2 days were fine. They call twice each time to make sure you're awake. The third and most important time they didn't call. I missed meeting my family and missed my appointment. When I complained about this to the reception (as they have a guarantee wake up or your stay is free sign), they tried to say that I did get a call and hung up. I'm a light sleeper who's staying in a room with 3 others who never heard the phone. What's more, I would never hang up the phone since we have friends staying there also who could have been calling us. They practically accused me of lying since their receptionist said he did call!!!!!!! This big hotel chain relies on a human and don't think their employee could have made a mistake. I demanded to see their phone log of the call and of course they gave me a spiel about how it's not available. Needless to say... this is an example of lying corporation who could care less about people or their reputation. They should not be putting up signs that guarantees something they never intend to back up.
