This Holiday Inn is beautiful outside, spare and modern inside. Located close to the Gare de Lyon Train Station and Metro stop for getting around Paris, it is also near many restaurants and stores for food and personal items. It is just a block off of the Seine so it's easy to find, and is near a Seine River Poster & photo exhibit area, which was nice to walk by. It was also close to the new Opera House & the Bastille, a good area for shops and restaurants, and another Metro Stop plus many bus routes connect here.

I read another review that conflicts with our experience. Our biggest complaint was lack of an iron in our room. Paris is a fashionable city so we brought nice clothes that were rumpled when we arrived. The hotel only had a few to lend out to guests, and we and other guests had to wait several days to get one as the staff was disinclined to get them back from other guests. While we did have an in-room safe, hair-dryer, fridge, TV, shampoo & lotion; we did not have face cloths, conditioner, ironing board, snacks or drinks, or a coffee maker. We didn't get robes or slippers other reviewers mentioned.

The staff was also polite, but not helpful. They do not help you with directions or information on places you might want to visit, although they will give you a map. When they called a taxi to take us to the airport, we were asked to go back inside to wait, as they didn't another taxi stopping for us. But when they told me this, they didn't offer to help me back in with my three rolling bags.

So the hotel is clean and convenient, but not especially friendly or helpful.

Room Tip: Pretty quiet location. Some street noise, but not bad.

I knew we would be arriving on the TGV with 2 large bags and didn't want to deal with the Metro or a taxi so I booked something close to Gare de Lyon. The area is fairly charm free, though if you like to run in the morning the equivalent of the High Line is close by and worth checking out. The room was very small, but this is Paris. The room was hot and stuffy, and there were no fitted sheets between us and the comforter. Wonder how often they launder them? I found the front desk staff to be very helpful, though I never did figure out how to sign onto their free WIFI network. There were two other 3 star hoteld on the same street that looked just as nice or nicer, at least from the outside. One big thumbs up for the bar, which poured us 2 HUGE glasses of wine for 4.50Euro, which in Paris is a bargain.

Room Tip: The "courtyard" room have a depressing view, but the street can be noisy, and you will wan...

I stayed here in July the weekend after Bastille Day with my husband and youngest daughter. We were initially put in a room for two people and had to request a change to the three bedroom room we had booked and paid for before arrival. We then had to put in a special request for bedding for the pull out bed. The reception staff weren't particularly friendly or helpful though that may have been due to the fact that the woman who sorted out our room change was at the front desk at 6.00pm and still there at 9.00am the next morning. Some of the local restaurants and shops appeared to be closed due to the Bastille Day weekend holiday.
The hotel room itself was very clean and comfortable though our room was very hot and we only figured out how to lower the air conditioning on the last day. I didn't feel like asking the reception staff about the air conditioning as I felt slightly intimidated by them and my French is abysmal.
The breakfast was great, hot food, cereal, tasty breads and cheese and the breakfast staff seemed quite friendly and helpful. When we'd booked the hotel directly online through the Holiday Inn website it had stated that there was a maximum of 2 breakfasts available per room but there was no problem (and no extra cost) with the third person breakfast. The location is good - the Gare d'Austerlitz is just across the river if you want to catch the direct Metro to the Eiffel Tower and off course the Gare de Lyon is a few minutes walk away. The hotel is just outside the main tourist area which is reflected in the price as it seemed slightly cheaper than other Paris Holiday Inns.
There's a Monoprix mini-mart for stocking up on snacks just across the road on the Rue de Lyon and a few hundred yards along the Rue on the same side of the road as the hotel is a Carrefour supermarket. No hassle from the sex shop next door in fact the neon shop sign is quite useful for helping with your bearings when you get off the train at the Gare de Lyon on arrival.
Some good restaurants nearby, especially at the corner of the Rue de Lyon and Boulevard Diderot. To sum up, good for comfort, location and value, but possibly requiring some staff customer service skill training.

Room Tip: Rooms looking on to Rue de Lyon and on lower floors for view and size

Paris is expensive not doubt, but this Holiday Inn has higher than averages room rates for a hotel of this kind in Paris. Pay-per-use Internet or pay-per-use time blocks are a holdover from the 1990s and early 2000s - time for free hotel wireless everywhere please. Internet connection speeds even for the premier pay plan are not good. The breakfast restaurant is quite good - fresh, healthy and lots of variety and the coffee is excellent. The rooms are very quiet (Rue de Lyon is quite peaceful at night). My room was actually larger than average for Paris I think, and the bathroom was recently upgraded. Lots of small amenities including bathrobe and slippers (you can take the slippers with you when you check out), iron, pants press, ironing board, safe, small fridge, hair dryer, lots of extra towels and extra pillows. The location is excellent, 5 minute walk to the canal and the Seine, 20 minute walk to Ile de la Cite, 10 minute walk to Bastille, 5 minute walk to Gare de Lyon (and all the TGV trains, half a dozen Metro lines, regional trains), dozens of good restaurants of all descriptions (French, regional, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Mediterranean, American and so on. No real complaints about the hotel at all - comfortable and accessible and very well located (Le Marais is only a 25 minute walk). In my opinion though, it's just too expensive for what it is - an upscale Holiday Inn with aspirations to bigger things. Lots of business travelers in the Holiday Inn Paris Bastille - it's not a family-oriented hotel - because it has a lot of business amenities (meeting rooms, projectors, sound systems, various size conference and exhibition areas, etc.). Although it is possible to hear street noise at night (the usual sounds of a dark city - sirens, the occasional loud car, the occasional drunk), choose a room facing Rue de Lyon for its sunrise and sunset views of old Paris rooftops. Still, with free Internet, it would be a much better value.

I stayed at this Holiday Inn for 2 nights from 8/24-8/26. It's in a great location, right near Gare du Lyon, which has a lot of subway lines. It's a 20 min. walk to the Notre Dame, and 10 min. walk to Bastille. It's a pretty quiet neighborhood with a few restaurants and cute bakeries. It has a supermarket a few minutes away as well.

The room we stayed in was on the small side, but comfortable and clean. We had 2 single beds that were pushed very close together. The only problem was that there is no clock in the room!

A huge pro is that there is free Internet in the lobby. There are 2 computers and a printer for your use that no one was ever using. There's wifi in the lobby as well.

Con: you have to pay for local calls (found this to be true for other hotels in France as well though)

Overall, great hotel. Would definitely stay at it again!

+ve:
- 3 minutes walking distance from Gare De Lyon – a main station (metro and train).
- Clean and elegant room.
- Spacious breakfast restaurant, with nice view on the street
- Free Internet Wifi
- Carrefour Market is just 5 minutes walk from the hotel, so you can buy water, snacks, bread, salads, etc … at reasonable prices.
- A nice neighborhood.

-ve:
- expansive for a 3 stars hotel, yet the property quality is good.
- breakfast choices are limited.
- Although the hotel is well located very closely to a main station, it's quite far from all attractions. It requires a fit person to walk to the closest attraction which is Notre Dame. Nevertheless, Paris has a strong transportation network that facilities the move a lot, specially that the hotel is well located next to a metro and train station.
- A sex shop is just on the door step of the hotel, which might attract ppl you don't want to encounter, although I personally didn't see anyone going in or out of it.

PS. DON'T buy the tickets of the Open Tour ... It looks attractive that you can roam the whole city, hopping on and off (especially that it passes right infornt of the hotel) .... But in practicality, it's a terrible time waster ... It took me more than 4 hours to go from Arc De Triumph to the hotel, for a journey that takes 20 minutes by metro! ... Plus, the last bus on the Open Tour is at 7 pm. Not recommended at all!

My overall experience in the hotel is positive, and would recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the main street
