“Great location and clean hotel”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

My husband and I spent two nights (A Saturday and Sunday) here recently. The room was number 10, on the first floor, and I would rate it only 3 star quality, with plenty of shabby chic decor. The bathroom was large and had a good shower. I felt that the bedroom was disappointingly small, especially when getting ready in the mornings/packing up when the two of us could hardly move around the room. I would rather have had a smaller bathroom and bigger bedroom. Also, the pictures I'd seen on the website showed nice new decor, and ours was in a sort of 'Marie Antoinette' style, which was ok but not what I was expecting.

The room was clean, and there were good facilities provided (such as kettle, shower gel, soap, minibar/fridge, etc). Unfortunately, we could hear noise through the thin walls and roof, and we could hear reception's phone ringing in the evenings. I took my earplugs though, and slept well.

The hotel is 10 mins walk from the Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees, and two metro stations are within 10 minutes walk. We felt adventurous and walked to the Eiffel Tower, which took about 35 minutes each way. One thing to beware of is that while the area is nice and clean, there are few restaurants/cafes open in the evenings, especially for those on a lower budget. On a Sunday there was nothing open for breakfast, but on Monday we ate at La Petite Marquise, in Place Victor Hugo, and they had delicious pastries and very good coffee.

To sum up, I would recommend the hotel, especially if you get a cheaper deal. Take your ear plugs, and be prepared to walk or take the metro to see some of the tourist attractions, and to get better choices for eating out in the evenings.

Pros
-Great location, close to some of the key tourist attractions
-Room had a large bathroom
-Free WiFi
-Clean

Cons
-Few Restaurants/cafes close by that are open in the evenings
-Small, "shabby chic" bedroom
-Expensive - but good value if you can get a last-minute deal.

Room Tip: Room 10 on the first floor was old-fashioned decor, and you could hear noise from the upstairs/other...

This hotel is in the perfect location when travelling as a tourist to Paris.
The rooms are typically small but marginally larger than most in Europe.
The service was absolutely terrible (rude guy at reception who needed a lesson in customer service and general etiquette), but you don't really need to interact with the staff so it didn't ruin the experience.

Stayed @the hotel in january for 5 days. Reception was very friendly and professional. Rooms are spacious compared to other hotels in Paris. Rooms were cleaned daily...spotless. Breakfast: lots of products to chose from & ideal way to start the day. Person who was in charge of the breakfast room very professional. Location is also a plus! Lots of restaurants in the neighbourhood, close to the subway etc
Just booked another stay at the end of january 2013!

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in April 2012 with my husband for our 10th Wedding Anniversary. We had never been to Paris before and this hotel was ideally situated about 15 mins walk to the Eiffel Tower one way and 15 mins the other way to The Champs Elysees, 10 mins from the Arc de Triomphe one way and 10 mins to the Trocadero, 5 mins to the Metro and plenty of restaurants and bars. This building is very tall & slim, so the lifts and corridors are very small. It is clean and comfortable, offering bed & breakfast with a bar and room service. I would stay here again and would be happy to bring my children.

No doubt there are many hotels in Paris with a good location but if you want that plus affordability, cleanliness, nice staff and a good hot breakfast buffet every morning well then I'd say this is it ! Within a few blocks each way is a major street/circle with access to various metro lines. In under 2 days we had it the metro figured out and it was a great way to get around. According to the front desk staff when we'd asked them to call us a cab they dont come so you have to go to cab stands ... again a few blocks away at Victor Hugo "circle". Did that once and even people at the stands told us the Metro was faster given where we wanted to go. We also did a hop-on/hop-off bus tour which had a stop between us and the Arc which was great! The Arc de Triumph is a 10min leisurely walk as is shopping and restaurants. The room was larger than I expected for Europe (maybe we got lucky).... they were very HOT though and even with a window open all day/night it felt like heat pumping in. I suspect our A/C was not working or we were not doing it right. We heard the beds are very good... personally I found them painfully hard but people we spoke too out of the hotel said very firm is considered a good bed there... hmmm.... live and learn. We had some annoying issues with the door key reader which had us at the desk at least 6 times in 7 days. Our safety dep box did not work to start either. But staff (most of whom spoke some English) were very responsive and polite in dealing with these little problems. We did not face the street as I'd read another comment here that suggested otherwise to avoid noise HOWEVER, hearing garbage trucks etc starting around 6am daily was far more annoying that overnight traffic possibly could have been.
The free internet was frequently down and the front desk staff had no clue how to fix that however with my limited computer skills I was able to realize the problem was users signing off too far thus kicking the system right out of the net. A simple solution is for the hotel to put a sign up for users telling them what to do to sign in and off. If you hit this simply do a power off/on and when it comes up use the wall instructions for how to get wifi and it works (I did this several times).
The breakfast was a good selection of hot/cold... breads, cheeses, yogurts, cereal, eggs, sausages, etc. Given the price of everything in Paris starting the day with a free and yummy breakfast was great! There was a mature male that served us our coffee most days and he was so kind and professional that we wanted to tip (even though tipping is not the norm in France, in case you didn't know) but suddenly on the last 2 days he was not there... hopefully just on some well deserved days off.

My parents and I stayed at Hotel Victor Hugo. The hotel itself is beautiful - located on a lovely, quiet street just a walk away from Trocadero Square and the Arc de Triomphe. The Eiffel Tower and other attractions are further away, but still very close considering (there's a tour bus stop about 10 minutes away from the hotel). The room was very small especially for three people, but very clean...and you won't spend much time in it anyway. The staff was very friendly and helpful! For example, they always gave us great recommendations for dinner spots, and told us the best ways to get to an attraction. We also forgot to bring a plug convertor, so they gave us one free of charge. The continental breakfast was pretty much the same every morning, but it was great not having to worry about breakfast. Great value for our money. I'd recommend it, but just keep in mind the rooms are quite small. (We travelled August 2010).

It is true that some of our rooms are more, or less spacious than the standard average, however they are quite validated in the standard of comfort approved by the Chain Best Western , some people will say that it is ' the charm of Paris !

Awaiting the pleasure of welcoming you to a future stay;

The manager there is first class; leads by example and I think all the staff there sense it, from the cleaners to the kitchen staff. All of the staff there were helpful and willingly provided their service with a smile - which is very rare in France, especially Paris.
