“Chic and contemporary”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

We were so pleased to have booked to eat dinner at this wonderful restaurant. Situated in the lovely Hotel Bristol, Le 114 Faubourg restaurant did not disappoint.
We arrived over 1 hour in advance and chose to enjoy cocktails in the recently opened Bar Bristol. Cocktails were wonderful although very expensive. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

The bar manager escorted us to the Le 114 Faubourg restaurant (a nice touch) where we were shown to our table on the first floor which allowed for a great view across the whole restaurant. The maitre d' and his waiting staff were absolutely delightful; nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel special and they succeeded in ensuring we had a memorable evening...

Previous reviews have suggested that the menu is expensive. True, but no more expensive than a top class restaurant anywhere in the world. We were guided on our menu choices and I chose the langoustine ravioli to start. Yes, it was (very) expensive but the langoustine was the best I have ever tasted.
Our main courses ranged from Entrecote steak, fish and chips (so beautifully presented) and a Faubourg burger...all were very good.
I asked the Somelier for help in choosing a red wine and she was so friendly and helpful. The wine was from a region I had not tried before and was delightful.
The whole evening was simply wondereful as were all the staff who could not have done any more to add to our experience. We will certainly return when we are next in Paris.
Thank you Le 114 Faubourg!

“Magical Christmas lunch”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

We ate lunch here on Christmas day with our two teenage daughters, and it met every expectation. From the greeting, to the friendly, professional service, particularly from Angelique, the simply superb food, the gentle teasing of our daughters by the maitre d' - it was a great afternoon. One of our girls is allergic to seafood, and three of us hate offal, so eating in France is a challenge, but we all managed to find something good to eat for entree, main and dessert. Top this off with a little gift bag of truffles and biscuits to take home, and we were very happy little vegemites. Worth every penny - in fact, given that the other restaurant at Hotel le Bristol, Epicure, was charging for each person the total we paid for four people for Lunch on Christmas Day, and the menu is overseen by the same chef, we feel we got a bargain. Definitely recommended.

“#4 in Paris - Really?”
Reviewed December 15, 2012 via mobile

Being #4 rated by TA community and located in Hotel Bristol - this raises expecations that the 114 clearly did not meet.

We enjoyed drinks at the new Bristol Bar - truly grand. Afterwards, we were greated by the F&B manager and lead to our table. The setting and decor are kinda disappointing. More a modern bistro. Food and drinks are expensive (diet coke $15 for a 2dl bottle). Quality if the food was food good- but prices too high, ef., soup of the day priced at ?24.

Other probelm was the spotty service. Waiter did little about the menu and was generally not visible (we waited 20 min for l'addition). No amuse bouches were served - which I found unsual given the high prices.

Dear Guest,

We are truly sorry that we did not meet your expectations during your last visit within the 114 Faubourg, our French brasserie.

The points that you outlined are certainly a cause of concern on our part, and while we cannot offer any excuse for the undue inconvenience that you had to endure during your dinner, we do seek your kind indulgence on this very atypical occasion.

Without a doubt, the staff should have been more alert about your needs and we already briefed everyone about that particular point.
Your comments help us to grow better, and we are thankful for that.

We do hope that your experience at the 114 Faubourg has not marred your overall impression of Hotel Bristol, and that we will soon have the pleasure of being at your service again.

Best regards,

“Excellent, and not that expensive”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

The service, meals and interior was great. And the price was not that high. Thus, strongly recommended. Just for easy finding the place, the restaurant is located at the firt floor of Le Bristol Hotel.

“Once-monthly Wine Tasting Evening”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

This is held the first Monday of the month. Here is how it was described: "Evenings start at around 7:30 with a tasting flight of four wines during which the winemaker shares tales about the vintages he's pouring. The accompanying full-course meal, tailored to the wine choices (as opposed to vice versa) by Chef Desbordes, is a set 120 Euro."

Without a doubt, this was the # 1 dining experience / highlight of our time in Paris and I thought an extraordinary value. I would estimate there were about 20 of us in the downstairs section of the restaurant, which was set aside for this event. For the first hour, the wine maker would describe each wine, we would taste it, and then Marco Pelletier, the Head Sommelier at Le Bristol, would add his comments. This was accompanied with an array of hors d'oeuvres that were terrific.

While the talk was conducted in French, it was not hard for us to pick out key words that got across the key messages. Also, once Marco realized our French skills were limited, he was very good about coming over to us to give us a condensed English version of what was said.
We then sat down to the four course menu that was developed specifically to accompany the wine and that would then be available for the rest of the month in the restaurant. To our delight, we were seated on one side to the wine maker and his wife and on the other side to Marco. It turns out that the wine maker had studied at UC Davis and worked in Sonoma, so we had lots to talk about.

I can’t recommend this experience enough. We were made to feel extremely welcome. I would say that it probably helps to be a wine lover and to not be easily intimidated by an evening conducted primarily in French.

Dear Sir,

We are delighted that you had the chance of enjoying our once in a month wine evening (that take place every first Mondays of the month). Indeed, we are privileged to be welcoming a different winemaker monthly, and fortunate enough to have him talk passionately about its wine. It brings the experience to a different level, with other descriptions explicated by our charismatic chef sommelier.

Those events, as you rightly noticed, are exclusive and acclaimed by our regional guests. We do hope to be able to have you again in our restaurant, on a different occasion.
