“The Icing on Our Paris Gateau!”

Of all the wonderful things we did in Paris, Charlotte's cooking class was definitely at the top of my list. Starting the rainy, cool morning with Richard strolling throught the incredible Rennes outdoor market was too perfect. Then shopping on the Rue Cler and ending up in Charlotte's beautiful, warm kitchen just off the Rue Cler with a lovely cup of coffee to welcome us set the tone. Charleston, NC native Charlotte is a natural born teacher (must be something to do with raising triplets on her own in Paris) and a lovely down-to-earth cook with Cordon Bleu credentials. I like to think that I'm a foodie, but I learned so much in a few short hours. And the food - oh my. Charlotte is very intuitive and quickly discerned that our group of 4 was a bit tired from the previous evening's activities and just did everything herself, but explaining all the way. If we'd wanted to cook ourselves, she would have happily accommodated us. Cooking, laughing, eating, sharing stories and wine with a 3 course lunch that Charlotte created was such a treat. Highly recommend this way to spend 1/2 a day in Paris.

“The expat view of Paris”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

If you want a glimpse of American expat life in Paris, this is the class for you. My husband and I booked with Richard and Charlotte before leaving the US. Richard was attentive to our dietary needs and culinary interests. I mentioned I loved Moroccan food and we were rewarded with a chicken tagine demonstration. It was a Friday morning, so first we met up at the market at Blvd. Raspail / Rue de Rennes where Richard led us through the market, interspersed with stories of life in Paris, greetings with his friends, etc. We picked up some cheeses and produce then cabbed over to Charlotte's townhouse near Rue Cler (I have mobility issues, otherwise we would have used the Metro). Her kitchen is lovely - we sipped wine, and peeled some white asparagus while watching her demonstrations and hearing the story of how she ended up living in Paris. An interesting view of life abroad. And a fabulous lunch to go with it.

“Deliciously delightful food adventure with two gems- Richard and Charlotte!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013 via mobile

We highly recommend this dynamic duo and this market class to anyone who enjoys:
- great food
- knowledgeable and engaging hosts/ chefs
- the eclecticness of market shopping and taking in Belle Époque architecture along the tour. especially loved our stop in Poliane bakery (simply divine pain au chocolat that has ruined us for life)
- a class that doesn't scrimp on quality of ingredients or answering all of our questions
- having fun- truly the time flew by
- learning new things the Parisian way!
- as hands on as you like it to be- just ask
- the opportunity to be in a wonderful kitchen, home and market in a interesting part of the city
- the opportunity to make new friends on an adventure

Richard was the consummate guide and Charlotte was a passionate chef!

We were thrilled to have also met some wonderful people - Keith and Patty during our class, that we agreed to have dinner the following night together.

A toast to Richard, Charlotte, Keith and Patty: to good people, good food, in a great city!

Jay and I thank you for the adventure of a lifetime!

“Exceptional Food in a Wonderful Atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2013

Richard Nahem offers a cooking class experience with his colleague Charlotte, who is a cordon bleu chef. We met him in the morning to shop for some ingredients at a market, and then travelled to Charlotte's lovely home to have her cook three dishes. She explained the steps very clearly, talked about availability of ingredients and variations on the recipes, and served the food in her kitchen for us to eat. The experience was something unique and memorable, and the food was outstanding. I would highly recommend this experience for anyone who is keen to try real gourmet food and to take away recipes you will be excited to share with friends.

“Americans in Paris”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2013

My adult daughter and I booked this cooking class with Eye Prefer Paris, hoping to get a new view of French cooking. We both cook and study cooking techniques and routinely take cooking classes at home.

We.met Richard at the appointed hour on a colorful corner near a French street market. Richard is charming and chatty. Just exactly what was needed for the morning food shopping. After the shopping we strolled across the neighborhood to Charlotte's home, getting a wonderful commentary on the area and Richard's life in the city. Very informative and lots of fun. We really wanted to bring him home with us, but he does love his life in Paris.

Charlotte is literally 'An American in Paris'. She is a trained chef, a down to earth cook and a wonderful teacher. She quickly discovered that we were there for more than technique and switched the focus to a morning where we helped her cook from her recipes while she provided an education about ingredients, from farming to French food regulation and labeling. We talked about all the ingredients in the dishes we were cooking, from duck breasts and cheese to chocolate and wine. I believe Charlotte's second book will be just what we want.

The meal was wonderful. Great food, simply and beautifully prepared. Recipes to take home. (Rebecca has already prepared the chocolate tart and wowed her gentleman friend.). Memories to keep.

I can't say enough about what a wonderful outing this is. Go to Paris and experience Richard and Charlotte early in your trip. Great cafe and bistro recommendations. Don't eat a single crappy breakfast in France when you can have great food at great prices, recommended by professionals! Have a great meal EVERY night, not just when you hit that pricey guidebook place! These folks were a font of good advice.
