This place was recommended by the folks at our hotel, who described it as simple, authentic French cuisine. It’s very small - almost claustrophobic - and the furnishings are Spartan, with nothing on the floors or the walls to deaden the noise of raucous laughter.

The night we were there the short menu included grilled squid, beef stew, and roast rabbit. The squid was almost inedible, but the beef stew and roast rabbit were nicely prepared even if a bit bland and uninteresting. The service was ardent, but somewhat erratic and confused (it take a while for them to figure out how to make a gin and tonic). We wouldn’t go back.

A smallish bistro right in the middle of Sevres-Babylone/Bon Marché area offers decent food, which, at least in our experience, was by and large spoiled by a bad, inattentive and seemingly overwhelmed service who couldn't take the pressure of a busy Saturday night.
The reservations on-line could be made via LaFourchette.com or restaurant's own Web-site. The menus are available on ardoise (portable chalkboard that is being placed before you for your contemplation and subsequent decision).
The food was decent, even with some claims to creativity and certain nice twists to it. Our appetizers were the Piquillos (€9) and Gateau de foies de volaille (€10), and both were quite good. My main course was Pot au feau/paleron (€26) and somehow this wonderful French rustic dish was spoiled by chewy and unappetizing potatoes. But that again might be subjective; at least the meat and the veggies were good. My wife ordered the restaurant's specialty of Petits chipirons sautés à l'huile d'olive, risotto à l'encre de seiche (small calamari/€19) but instead got some meaty dish, apparently a Mille feuille d'agneau confit. We first blamed our French pronunciation, but were shocked to see that our receipt did indeed list the Chipirons, which we never received!
Overall the restaurant's waiting staff left a sour impression of being unable to keep the coordination between the kitchen and service together. In our hour and a half we witnessed numerous dropped and broken china and utensils, people being moved from one table to another, etc. Bad service is capable of letting down even a Michelin-studded restaurant, and Les Botanistes is not the one.
The desserts were decent, especially the Macaron (€12). The other dessert, a Flognarde (€10) was just OK, nothing special.
Our bill, including 2 appetizers, 2 desserts, a bottle of decent Bordeaux and 2 coffees came up to €137.80. Quite an average value for Paris.
The dining area is kind of crowded; the patrons are the usual mix of the English-speaking residents of the 7e arrondissement and the locals.
We can't and won't recommend the restaurant because of their 'messed-up' service. With an improvement in service, Les Botanistes will have a better chance to stay in business.

My wife and I just stumbled upon this place while wondering around Paris. Staff was attentive and helpful, food very simple but fresh. I would not go out of my way to go there but if nearby it is a reliable option.

Having eaten at Les Botanistes right after it opened under this family management three years ago, I returned recently to find it doing very well, as a simple little (seats 24) neighborhood bistro. Reservations definitely recommended as the crowd looked to be local and regular.
Modest menu, on the chalkboard -- traditional choices of veal, steak, several fish. My friend and I started with the herring first course -- to satisfy our need for iodine and something not found in the US; he then had the daily special -- salmon over a bed of lentils, and I was very pleased with tasty grilled squid over risotto of epeautre; desserts an apple tart with pistachio ice cream and a flan (and not to ignore the good-looking baba au rhum at the next table).
Decent choice of a chablis -- pleasingly available by the 50 cl carafe.
The setting is intimate although no more crowded than is typical -- service fine in context of the small size.
Not a destination spot -- but worth planning as a stop-over for those on a shopping expedition to Bon Marche around the corner or along the exceedingly pleasant rue du Bac a block away.

Nice environment, good and cosy atmosphere, the service is carfeull. Good selection of wines. Unfortunately the menu is rather limited, the presentation of the food is standard and without creativity. The main dishes were only 'boeuf' or fish on mushed potates or oven backed potatoes. It is certainly positive to propose food in season but for an average price of more than 50€ per person (with a glas of wine) one expects much more in terms of taste, options and crativiy. Very very standard. We would not return.
