“Excellent hotel in the Latin Quarter”
Reviewed May 31, 2012

My wife and I stayed here from 19 to 26 April 2012. It's a excellent hotel in a great location about 150m from the Maubert-Mutualite metro station and close to many shops and restaurants on the beautiful Boulevard St.Germain and Rue St,Jacques, and in easy walking distance from Notre Dame and the starting point of the hop-on hop-off bus.
Our room on the 3rd floor was quite spacious by Paris standards and was well equipped, with iPod docks and plenty of wardrobe space as well as a minibar and tea and coffee making facilities. Our room looked over a back street and it was quiet at night, the bed was very comfortable (we loved the pillows) and we slept well every night. The free wifi worked well in our room, everything was kept clean and an excellent breakfast spread, including cereal, bread and croissants with cheeses and ham was served in the converted wine cellar.
The staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel almost at home. The International Herald Tribune is available in a small lounge near the reception area, and there is a larger lounge room downstairs with two compiuter terminals where we printed our boarding passes.
Our only criticism is that nearly all of the channels on the flat screen TV were in French, the only news we could find in English was CNN, and there was a problem with the CNN reception.

As all the previous reviews have said, the hotel is in an excellent location; really had to beat in the centre of the Latin Quarter close to both Bvd St Germain, and Bvd St Michel and very close to the metro, (Line 4 that runs to Gare du Nord (handy for the Eurostar) is about 6mins walk away).

The hotel itself is ok. As expected in Paris, the rooms are shoe-box sized. There really is not enough room for 2 adults & 2 small suitcases, but you expect that. The decor was fine, the cleanliness fine. The room is air-conditioned & the air-conditioning works well (and doesn't turn off when you remove the key card). The hotel is quiet (outside & between rooms) and the combination of the right temperature, and no noise other than the constant hum of the a/c means we slept very well.
The bathroom was pokey, but adequate. You get only body wash (no other toiletries) & the water pressure - at least on the first floor - was poor. I went into the bathroom at 2am one night to find a big cockroach scurrying around. I'm not sure there is much they can do about that, but we certainly put our toothbrushes away after use after that revelation. As mentioned in other reviews, there was a safe in the room for your valuables. We didn't get asked to hand our key in when we went out & for the 3 days we stayed, we never had to hand over our key to anyone (a key gripe of previous reviews).

For the money you pay, it's not great nor poor, hence the 3 star (average) rating.

The breakfast that others have raved about wasn't included in my room rate, and I didn't buy it because in Paris it's easy (and nice) to head outside and have a pasty from a boulangerie. Barely two minutes from the hotel is a lovely fresh food market place (car Bvd St Germain & Rue Monge). I picked up delicious fresh pasties & OJ here for under €5/day.

I would stay here again because the location is hard to beat. I booked directly with the hotel, 3 days before I traveled, & paid €200/night.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for this review, we are happy that you enjoyed your stay in Paris.

Our hotel owns the Ecolabel since 2008 (low environmental impact + high quality of service), and some criteria don't allowed to provid single use toiletries and products: that why our bathrooms provid liquid soap and shampoo/shower gel in dispensers.
Of course, all the usual toiletries (shoe shine, shower cap, paste & tooth brush etc... are available for free on request, as detailed in our Room directory).

Regarding the bug in your bathroom, I' going to send you a message to ask more information about your room: we are very concerned regarding this incident, especially when the sanitary control has been made in the last days of May. I would ask them to come back, and need more information.

Thank you again for taking the time to wright your comment on TripAdvisor, and we hope to see you again (without any bug, I promise :) ).

Sincerly yours,

Karine GILLOT

Stayed at this hotel May 2012. The hotel is in a great location, near Notre Dame, the Pantheon, Sorbonne, Luxembourg Gardens, Ile De St Louis, and many other Latin Quarter sites. The area is fun and interesting and has many restaurants and shops. The rooms at the hotel are very small. We had a "superior" room which was tiny. The service was good. We had breakfast included, which was a small buffet. The only eggs available were raw and you could put them in a device to boil them which takes some time. No potatoes. They had ham, cheese, baguettes and croissantes and some other assorted fruits and cerals - they also included champagne. The ham and cheese was great and I ate ham sandwiches on a baguette for breakfast every morning and loved it. The breakfast room itself was very nice. I recommend this hotel, but be ready for the small room.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days. We were impressed my the highly knowledgeable staff. Their friendly manner and of course their assistance with directions and the best ways to enjoy Paris.
Andrea was a wealth of knowledge and always keen to help. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast room was amazing. Close to many sites and surrounded by lots of restaurants. We would definitely return and spend more time at this hotel.

First off, the hotel room is actually very well situated in the Latin Quarter. A short walk to Notre Dame and the metro. Very close to many good restaurants. Also, the rooms were newly updated and felt clean. Onto the not so good - when we were there in Feb 2012, the hotel was still under renovations. So the back hallway was very dusty (which is not great with a pregnant wife) and it was quite noisy in the morning. The room we stayed in was very small, even by European standards. The elevator was slightly annoying as well. Very small and could only fit 1 person and 1 luggage each time. Lastly, I do find it a severe inconvenience to drop off our room key (which is a card) each time we leave the hotel. There is just delays in getting the key (if someone is checking in) or dropping off the key each day. Though, it was not all bad as the hotel really is in a good area. Just quiet enough at night to not bother us sleeping but close enough to most everywhere we would like to go, hence a 3 star rating.

I just want to say that the staff at Jardin de Cluny is top-notch. They gave us excellent recommendations for food and good directions to some local sights. They always offered to help in any way they could, including helping up get a shuttle to the airport. There was one young woman , I think her name was Karina, and she was so great, two-thumbs up. They let us check in early (we had informed them what time we would be getting into town) and they made it happen for us. After a ten hour direct flight, its nice to get a room and get situated.

Something I will say that made my trip to France awesome was they kept our bags for us while we visited another city. We stayed here 2 nights, then went to Avignon for 2 nights then came back for 3 nights. It was so nice not having to carry all of our luggage back and forth between the two cities, for that alone I would give it 5 stars.

Breakfast made me feel like I was an appreciated guest at their establishment. Wonderful pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, organic breads, fresh squeezed orange juice, it was a great way to start our day each morning.

Location was great 5 minutes from Notre Dame, 5 minutes from Luembourg Gardens, and a block from some great eateries and cafes.

Only negative is we didn't want our room cleaned every day, we're private type people, but they did anyways (even though we left a do not disturb sign on the door). Also, you have to give them your key every time you leave. That was a little strange and I felt like we would get on their nerves when we would run out for a something from the store and stuff like that but they are probably used to it.

I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. We stayed at a 5 star hotel in Avignon and their staff was nothing like this and they charged out the wazoo for breakfast.

Room Tip: Get a Junior Suite (ask for the 5th floor, street side, they have balconies!!)

We had a 24 hour layover in Paris and booked this place upon a friend's advice and were very satisfied. The location is perfect, a brisk walk from the Metro station which deserves the airport line. We were able to check in earlier which was much appreciated coming off a long haul flight. The rooms were clean, the bathroom small but very functional and the hotel itself is charming. The staff are friendly and helpful. We missed out on the "organic breakfast" as our flight was too early, but definitely next time!
