We stayed at the Garden Opera last week for 1 night. Its a great location in that the metro is 100 yards away, however if you are looking for quality, look elsewhere. We stayed here as part of a eurostar trip with lastminute.com and it was listed as a 3 star hotel. I would say its more of a 1 - 2 star. There was mould in the bath and sink. The bedspreads were filthy and the fridge was broken and mouldy. It stated that each room had tea/coffee making facilities, a microwave and telephone, but there weren't any in our room. On the plus side the staff were polite.

This place was listed as a three star. It clearly is not. What it is though, is a cute little hotel with a very friendly staff in the middle of a neighbourhood which, at night, is fantastic. During the day this area can become a bit intense, especially for women and I wouldn't recommend staying there alone. However there were three of us and we loved the bar two doors down. The street is noisy, but it's Paris. It had a rainfall shower head and beer in the vending machine; that's really all I would ever want.
Note for couples: make sure you insist on getting a double or queen bed; our room had two twins pushed together.

Room Tip: The street view rooms will be louder.

Hotel has a good location, about 100 meters from metro and bus stop, as well as it is very close to Gare del Est (Eastern railway station). The rooms are clean and every room has wifi signal. The rooms are quite small, maybe a little bit too small and poorly equiped with old furniture. TV in the room has only french channels, but who would watch TV in Paris anyway:). The breakfast area is also small, and tables are shaking, when you spread butter on your bread:). The neighborhood is noisy, but in my opinion it is not a problem with safety. Anyway, I used my room only for the rest, after the whole day of activities in the town. The price for the room was 65 EUR/night (for two pearson) booked through the hosteria.

I got this place for $90/night near Gare de Est, which is a pretty good deal for Paris. The showers did not drain properly due to some clogging but otherwise a good stay. Neighborhood is sketchy (and noisy!) and seems dangerous, however, it's only a 100 meter walk from the metro stop. Internet was good. Definitely not worth more than $150/night.

Room Tip: I'm guessing away from the street (too much noise).

Quality of the hotel was at the minimum level, unacceptable for what we paid (160eur/night single room).
Furniture /bathroom are old and decayed
Moquette was old and dirty
Waiters at breackfast room was having breackfast at the same time of the guests, all the table full of finished breackfasts.
It was a terrible experience

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel

Due to unforseen in circumstances, I got stuck in Paris without a hotel during a very busy conference week. I booked this hotel only because it was one of the few still available for under 200 euros.

It was wildly overprices - more like a hostel. To say the room was basic would be an understatement.. Paper-thin walls - I could hear the person in the next room everytime they turned over in their bed. Scary shower and overall feeling that the room was not too clean. Internet barely functioned. Area was in no way scenic - just noisy and ugly. It was close to a Metro stop but that's hardly unique in Paris. The only reason you should stay at this hotel is if you are on a budget or desperate like I was.
