“Terrific experience”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

My son and I stayed on the third floor overlooking Blvd. Montmartre for nine nights this past June. We do a lot of traveling together, and we agreed that this is one of our favorite places: cost-effective, friendly, and clean.

Best things about the hotel:

1. Location. As noted by others, the metro stop is very, very close. There is also a little bakery a few steps from the entrance, and there are several cafes just a few steps away. Very, very safe neighborhood. Very busy, too, so there is foot and car traffic almost all the time (including in the middle of the night), but we brought a white noise machine and weren't bothered at all by noise. Finally, there are several movie theaters a few minutes' walk away--a great respite if you are tired of sightseeing. Most films are in French, but some new American releases are in English and subtitled in French.

2. Service. Very accommodating staff. For example, when the lobby computer was not working, the staff generously allowed me to use a computer in the office.

3. Breakfast. My son is 16, and he can eat! The free breakfast each morning was wonderful and quite a bargain, as we did not need lunch until quite late in the day. We are used to free breakfasts offered by Comfort Inn, etc., but the offerings here were much, much broader. Fresh fruit was always offered (including watermelon), Babybel cheeses were great, dried apricots were terrific...and that is on top of croissants, hard boiled eggs, ham, and everything else you would expect from a breakfast.

Overall, terrific. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: View of Blvd. Montmartre is great. Interior view of the courtyard is dull, but much quieter. We like...

This hotel is in a great location, does a good breakfast and the staff are welcoming, friendly and warm but unfortunately it does have its drawbacks too.
We were in a room with a dual aspect on the 3rd floor facing the street - the room was very well designed and we found it easy for two people to move around the room without getting in each other's way. We had air conditioning, tv, a mini bar, room safe and plenty of storage space all as expected for a 3 star hotel, however some other aspects of the room pull it down towards 2 star. Firstly the noise (which is not relevant to the star rating) Unfortunately we had a street facing room and found it incredibly noisy (we both live in a big city so are used to hustle and bustle but this is quite loud, with traffic, passers by and bin & delivery lorries at all hours) There were some nights that even earplugs didn't block the noise properly, but the noise is probably lesser in other rooms with 1 window, or in back facing views, some of which will overlook Sacre Coeur. We found the noise was dampened if we left the air conditioning on all night, fine for us in the heat of late summer, but not really feasible in Winter.
There were also regular rumblings as Metro trains went by underneath us, but that's to be expected when the hotel is so close to 2 metro stations and there's nothing the hotel can do about that. In any case, it's handy to be in a hotel so close to a Metro station!
Carrying on with the mixed feelings about this room we had issues with the cleanliness. While the bath, toilet and sink were very clean & we had clean sheets and towels, the floor and other room surfaces were incredibly dusty to the point that I could write my name in the dust on the telephone handset. Not something I'd expect from a Best Western hotel, however all public areas appeared to be clean and tidy.
We also had ants in our room, not masses but around 10 or so a day. Apparently many hotels in this district have the same problem so again I'd not hold this against the hotel in particular.
The lift broke at one point, but it was fixed very quickly and this didn't cause us too many problems.
On the last morning we received a very early alarm call that we hadn't asked for, a bit annoying but mistakes can happen - I just hope someone else didn't sleep in as a result!
All in all I think I would sum up this hotel by saying - great location, but could try a lot harder. We'll not be back to this hotel but will stay in the area again as its vibrant and has many good restaurants and attractions nearby.

Room Tip: Ask for a back facing room with a view of Sacre Coeur - front facing rooms can be noisy

Very nice, despite the room size and the odd entrance. Beautiful building, and also a former residence of Rossini. His apartment is now the bar and the breakfast room. The location is perfect, 20m from metro, 15 min. from Louvre, the Opera, Pompidou center and Gal. Lafayette. And you have the Grevin wax museum and Hard Rock café at the sides.

If you like a typically parisien old hotel building with its architecture and furnishings, then this is the place for you to stay, it overlooked the boulevard Montmartre and its pretty cafes, not located near the red light district at all in Pigalle/Montmartre which was about 50 minutes walk away from it which was my main concern. The hotel was booked through Thomson Superbreak and was a package consisting of 4 nights for the price of 3 over the bank holiday weekend (27 August 2012). It didn't matter whether I travelled over the weekend before the bank holiday Monday or after it was the same price which was great. I would advise that it's done as a package otherwise the hotel works out very expensive about 150 euros per night and an additional 13 euros on top each day for breakfast, mine was all included with the Eurostar from Ashford International. I would definitely recommend using Ashford International rather than London St Pancreas as less busy and the tickets for the Eurostar were self service automated but all staff were friendly and helpful. It only took me 1hr and 10 mins to get from Eastbourne there. Also not far from mainline stations to other locations in Uk. It costs just under 10 euros for a taxi from the Gare du Nord to the Hotel Ronceray Opera or you can walk it which is about 20 minutes. The return taxi booked from the hotel will charge more and they also charge you 1 euro for your luggage so it works out about the same. Checking in and out of the room was good they were very flexible and my check in time was 2pm and was able to get into the room at 1pm. Checking out was at 12noon and my train wasn't until 3.13pm so they kept the baggage for me at reception without charge whilst I grabbed some lunch outside. The breakfast was very good in the hotel with plenty of choice for all nationalities and self-service. The room was clean, compact but simple and the bed was very comfortable a godsend at the end of a busy day of sightseeing. There was also air con in the room. The only thing I would mention was that there was no kettle in the room for unlimited coffee/tea and there was a poor choice of tv channels and no radio so limited if weather was bad. I also bought the Paris Pass in advance and would highly recommend this as it entitled me to 1 boat trip with Bateaux Parisiens; a 1 hour long sightseeing trip along the Seine; 2 days of hop on hop off sightseeing around the centre of Paris on the red buses; unlimited travel on the metro/RER/SNCF services and the underground stations are open until after half past midnight; unlimited entrance to local museums and attractions of Paris (not including the Tour Eiffel which only cost 14 euros for the summit) plus easy travelling links across the suburbs of Paris. To obtain the Pass, was really easy as it was only two doors down from the hotel and you were given the pass in the Hard Rock Cafe shop, you also were given a free metro map and book and discounts for eating out although I found Hard Rock Cafe too expensive to eat in myself. Eating out was expensive and coffees and pastries were also expensive costing 6 euros 50 for a cake and a small coffee 5 euros 50. Main meals were about 15-20 euros including english food. Most of the time i went to the supermarkets and bought food and had a lot of picnics, there is also a bar fridge in the room (which I didn't touch) and a hairdryer and your own safety deposit box in the wardrobe at no extra charge. There is also a reliable elevator which goes to every level. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly and spoke good english. The hotel was very convenient for shopping, dining out, the metro and visiting attractions. Would defintely use the hotel again and wasn't worried about my safety at night when going out in the evening not like some areas of Paris near the Gare due Nord as the hotel entrance wasn't visible to the street and the iron gate closed at 10pm most nights for safety purposes and after that time you had to ring the buzzer to gain entrance. Worth paying a bit more so you can go out at night and be safe. Definitely well worth a visit !

Room Tip: Rooms on the third floor are quieter and don't face the boulevard, not a room with a view where...

Elegant old building, convenient to the Metro and in a lively and pleasant neighborhood. Rooms are small, but the bathroom was very up to date with dual outlets that worked with most of our appliances. Very clean, and we found the staff friendly and helpful. Abundant choices at breakfast. The elevator was quickly fixed when it failed, so this did not trouble us. Bring earplugs in case your room is on the street side. I would return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the street side are quieter.

The staff were very helpful from the moment we arrived, had highered a car and needed a place to park it so they recommended the local 24 hour parking just down the road which they also were very accommodating.

Rooms were clean but simple, had air con which helped as it was very warm the time we traveled.

The metro was a quick walk and is recommended if you want to check out all the sites as its very simple to get around and navigate.

Breakfast was good with a resonance assortment of foods each morning.

Overal nice place to stay at a fair price.

Good location, nice staff, room was adequate. room was clean and had a/c. Staff was helpful and friendly. Convenient to shopping, dining, and metro. Our stay was booked for 6 nights but had to leave on 4th day (elevator broke 5 times during our stay) and we were not able to easily climb up the 4 floor to our room.
