“4 Day Parisian Trip”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We went to Paris in May of this year and had a very comfortable stay at this hotel. The location was excellent, with the Metro station just steps away, bars, restaurants and groceries very close by and being situated on the edge of Montmartre and Pigalle. The staff were very helpful and the free drinks in the mini bar were a bonus. We also had a huge double bed, which was very comfortable, with a view of Sacre Coeur from our window - beautiful.

Room Tip: We asked for a King Size double bed, but ours was a Super King easily (and very comfortable!)

Didn't know what to expect when I booked the hotel, but had limited options considering the city was sold out for whatever reason. The biggest challenge we found was confirming two beds...most hotels in Paris only have one bed, which isn't an option for a family of four.
We were checked into a room with one queen, despite requesting two beds at the front desk.
When we arrived to the room and called down for a change in rooms, we were told they were sold out. After requesting a rollaway bed, we were accommodated with with a room with two twin beds. Ok, we'll make it work we thought...the room was warm, despite the cool outdoor temperature. We called the front desk about the AC only to be told they have a two pipe system, which allows only AC or heat, but not both. Because of the season, it was time for heat only.
We opened the windows for the night, but the noise from the very busy road made for a VERY sleepless night in Paris. The noise and room temperature combined for a very disappointing trip to Paris...

Room Tip: Request a high floor away from the main street, otherwise, good luck!

The Mercure Monmartre was close to subway, restaurants, cafes, grocery stores and a few blocks from the Moulin Rouge. I had read reviews prior and was impressed that the manager responded to some of the critiques. Very professional! My first visit to Paris, so I have no other hotel with which to compare. I found the lobby to not be particularly warm and inviting, but adequate. Staff professional but don't expect smiles. Rooms seemed to be recently upgraded and having coffee/tea service was nice. Hotel room did not offer washcloths and did not have them to offer when I called. Bought our own at a nearby store...Unable to regulate hot/cold water in the shower-frustrating-and also impossible to prevent water from getting on the floor. Buffet breakfast was okay--not the food so much, just absolutely NO atmosphere. Carpet in dining room needs replacing badly. If I went to Paris again, I would try and stay somewhere more central in the city and pay a bit more for accommodations.

Dear Melanie G,
Thank you for your comments about your recent stay in our hotel.
I have well taken into account your remark about the water in the shower and our technical department is intervened.
Furthermore, renovations are scheduled in December in order to modernize our lobby and our restaurant.
I hope to welcome you again in order to discover the new « face » of Mercure Paris Montmartre.

Great hotel and a great base to explore from.
We're glad we chose a superior room but had the added bonus of an Eiffel Tower view... thank you so much. It was a lovely touch that made our 1st Wedding Anniversary extra special.
All the bars and restaurants on the Place de Clichy are a perfect spot to sit, drink and watch the world go by.
Sacre Coeur and Moulin Rouge are close by with the city centre within easy reach whether it be on foot, so you can soak up all the sights, or hop on the Metro for ease.
We would definitely recommend the hotel and hope to return one day.

In the past, we have stayed at other hotels in Paris, but we plan to stay at the Mercure Montmartre in the future. Very conveniently situated between the Place de Clichy and Blanche Metro stops, the hotel's location makes it easy to move around the city via public transportation or on foot. The staff was quite capable and friendly (a decided plus when compared to others in Paris) and made us feel welcome every day. Our plan included daily breakfast which was fresh, abundant, tasty and designed to satisfy palates from around the world. Notwithstanding the incessant noise of the street below, our room was very quiet and had ample lighting, which is often lacking in European hotels/resorts. We appreciated the free in-room Wi-Fi and noted that the hotel provided a few workstations just off the lobby for those who travel without laptops or iPads. In my opinion, the greatest compliment to a hotel is a return trip. And we plan to make one!

Room Tip: "Privilege" rooms on the 9th floor may be pricier but are more spacious and have views of...

With this being our first trip to Paris, we wanted to make sure our hotel was perfect to help us get the most out our stay. We stayed for five nights. The hotel is in a non tourist area, and has some great local shops, restaurants, Metro entrances. The rate was great for the modern, clean and well thought out hotel. The staff was nice and attentive and could understand English, which was great. The rooms are a very good size that have a modern look and feel. The Internet was free, and provided through Orange Mobile. It was fast and connected just fine with two iPhones and two iPads.

They do have a mini fridge that they provide free water, juice and soda. It's refreshed daily. The housekeeping was very through, and consistent. They did a great job. Just a tip. If you don't want to be others in the morning, put the do it disturb sign on the door. When housekeeping knocks, on the second knock they are opening the door. That happened three times. It's expected that they clean the room every morning, and that's what the "do not disturb" sign is for, but after housekeeping cleans the room, when they are refilling the mini fridge it's not expected.

The beds are very firm which is expected, but they have very small pillows. If you need an iron, there is one on the fifth floor, that at the time of my stay didn't work. You have to request one from the front desk, and they do make it seem like you are asking to borrow the Mona Lisa. Lol.

Some great tips that made our stay even better. 1. There is an Orange Mobile near by to buy SIM cards for cheap Internet usage. 2. The closest Metro station is Place De Clichy Metro line 13. 3. There are two grocery stores and a 24hr Pharmacy, a block or two away. 4. A few blocks away is Rue Lepic, which has a lot of shopping for foodies and fashion lovers. 5. The only stores open before 9am are the Boulangeries, Starbucks, and the souvenir shops. 6. A taxi to/from Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) takes about 30 mins and costs 50€-60€ (2ppl w/ 3 suit cases). 7. Directly up the hill from the hotel are some GREAT shops and small markets for pastries, chocolate, fruit, flowers and other items.

When we return in the spring we will stay again at the hotel. It's a very nice, affordable hotel, but just with some minor issues.
