Citadines Austerlitz Paris
Ranked #873 of 1,804 Hotels in Paris
Reviewed July 3, 2008

If you dream of fashionable cafes, beautiful boulevards, enticing patisserie shops, basking in the Parisian ambiance and coming home to reminisce in comfortable room, then stay the hell away from this place.

This was one of the biggest mistakes made on our 7 month trip. I don’t think you will need to ask why after you have looked at our photos of the ‘double bed’. Now check their website, the Studio standard room description, “one double or two twin beds”, look at the photos, see a real bed? No, that couch is the bed, not a double, but two tiny foam beds! They are too small to sleep on, so we had to put them on the floor, all rooms are the same.

I am fussy, I’ll admit. But I’ll let you decide if at €110 a night the following points don’t persuade you to look elsewhere: there is no air conditioning, or heating; the kitchenette is tiny and not well equipped; only weekly cleaning; you have to take your own garbage down to the basement; no washing up liquid or dish drying towels; there are no fire sprinklers, anywhere; the carpet odour, et de fungus. And to cap it off, the neighbourhood - it is the antithesis of everything you imagine in enchanting Paris.

I went to Paris this month and had the opportunity to stay in this hotel. It was very well appointed with silverware, plates, pots, stove, powerful stereo system. It was very clean, the staff is very friendly, speak English.

The location is in a quite residential area with no traffic noise.

stayed there five nights from 27/09 to 02/10 (room 32). lovely staff (his name arthur) extremely polite and willing to help. our room had a double sofa bed - the only disadvantage, but i had read about it in the internet so i was prepared. no problem to sleep. sheets were clean and pillows quite good actually. handy kitchen and cd player. large room if i consider the standards of paris hotels, bedroom 16m2 and large bathroom. all super clean and smelled nice. note that cleaning lady comes every week only. free safebox in the room, free coffee and tea at the reception and close to metro (nationale-4 min walking line 6 directly to eiffel tower and champs elysees). there are other 2 metro stations near by, campio formio and place d'italie 6min and 8min respectively on foot. 2 supermarkets one just outside the reception and one boulangerie patisserie for your daily baguette, all of them cheap. area not full of tourists, only local people. shopping mall at place d'italie, good prices. i would definetely stay there again. suitable for big families also

The pillows were terrible, room was clean, handy kitchen. we had a pull out couch made into a bed. overall the hotel location is close to Gare de Lyon, would I stay there again, no. the bed was the main issue. It reminded me of the holiday Inn.

I'd stayed at the Citadines Tour Eiffel in 2002, and that had me spoiled for a spacious room with balconette and kitchen in a chic part of town. The Citadines Austerlitz had none of that charm - BUT it offered a very good value, albeit for a very plain room (but if you're like me, you're not in Paris to hang out at the hotel). It's very close to the Metro, the staff was very pleasant and it's clean. I only spent 1 night on this trip, so that may explain why I was given a really nondescript room on the ground floor - perhaps the upper rooms are nicer, I can't say. I paid 76 euros, had a fridge, sink, stove, and microwave and felt very safe. For this single female traveler, it was a really good deal compared to other hotels I'd found online for the same price.

I am an Australian who has just returned from staying at the Citadines Austerlitz in Paris. I stayed with a small group , 10 of us altogether, 4 adults and 6 older teenagers. I booked the accommodation over the internet from Australia and was answered within 4 hours in English. I haven't seen any reviews of this type of accommodation in your info, and yet there are 14 Citadines dotted around Paris. I have stayed at Citadines Voltaire /Republique (11th area) twice and at Austerlitz once (13th area). They are far more spacious than many hotel rooms as they are apartments with a sofa bed or two single beds (for 2 people) and there are also ones with another bedroom, making enough beds for 4. You can also have another bed put in your room for E19 extra per night. The apartment consists of the bed/living room, with clean comfortable beds, a fully equipped kitchen, a separate bathroom and toilet. TV, iron, safe, kettle and hairdryer all available. Rooms are spacious, many with a balcony. I appreciated the fact that it was quiet at night, 3 mins walk from the metro station and I quickly became part of the neighbourhood, with the Asian takeaway, the bakery and 2 supermarkets within 5 mins walk. Internet cafe aslo very close. Cost at Austerlitz and a number of the other Citadines is E108 per night for a 2 person apartment and there are often special offers. Other Citadines in other areas cost more per night but as ours was very close to the 5th area and we could easily walk to Ile de le Cite with Notre Dame Cathedral and many other famous sights within easy reach, I thought it was excellent value.
Staff were EXTREMELY helpful and all spoke English. I asked about trains/buses to all parts of Paris and they had maps and t/tables available. A staff member made a phone call at the last minute to find out which terminal our Austrian airlines flight departed from at the vast, 2 station CDG airport: I couldn't have had more friendly help. My group was very happy!! Me too.

The hotel was a bit older, but still clean and nice. The kitchen was useful for us since we were traveling with our 6 month old baby. The rooms were quiet and the large studio was spacious enough for us. The bed was a fold out but was comfortable enough. They supplied a crib (not to US standards but fine) and a hair-dryer and coffee maker when asked. I like the location, since it is walking distance to Place de Italie, the Chinese area, the Moraccan area, and even the Latin Quater. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay there again but would like to try the Citadines at the Place de Italie since it looked newer.
