“A very good hotel in a nice part of town...”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Having stayed at the Sofitel recently during a business trip to Paris (Thursday 14th November 2013) I found both the location and hotel itself very well suited to my requirements. Situated off the Champs Elysee, the local metro station is about five minutes walk away or for those on a sightseeing tour bus, its the same route to the metro but then a short hop down to the stop outside the Monoprix supermarket.

This five star hotel had just been renovated and looked smart at first glance. The doorman nodded his hat and ushered me through the doors where I was met with another welcome inside. Reception and the bar lounge were well decorated with a faint sound of music setting the ambiance nicely.

The superior room was amazing and the bathroom was ample size. The television channels included English and American alongside local and European stations. As you would expect in such an establishment, everything you could request was there.

Having considered whether to eat in the hotel, I decided to venture out and explore. The menu in house was very interesting with lots of choice, however the rate for the meals were very high. Further down the road towards the Seine, there were other places to eat which were half the value and were also of excellent quality.

In the interests of balance, I should also say that the room had no bath. Not such a big deal for a one night stopover but frankly I like a good soak and this was mildly disappointing. The shower was a creative design whereby the effect was similar to rainfall. This was a new experience although I had to think for a minute when working out the layout of the taps.

Its very difficult to be critical with a hotel that got everything right and I had a great nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel for those looking for a good, safe and central place to stay. In my short and brief time here, it has endeared me to return again in the future.

Room Tip: Request a bath as superior rooms have showers

Newly renovated but rooms are fairly small and too much real estate givem to the bathtub. The lobby is very sleek and modern but I could not have been more overwhelmed by the " aroma therapy" greeting - too strong.

We stayed here for a week and really enjoyed our time here. The staff were friendly, the breakfast buffet was very good and the room was was very nice. Location was fantastic, being only a five minute walk to the Arc de Triomphe and Champs Élysées. The best thing though was the mattress on my bed...it was absolutely divine, and by far the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in at a hotel.

Without hesitation, this was the finest place we have ever stayed. The best staff, the food was beyond imagination and the location was 2 blocks from the Champse Elysee! The walk over was gloriously filled with high end shops and historic restaurants. The consideration we received and the personal touches, such as fresh cherries in our room were icing on this French perfection.
Merci, c'est magnifique!

Room Tip: The building was as close to sound proof as you could get!

We stayed one night in Paris, during a weekend and wanted to test this newly renovated property.

LOCATION

The hotel is located within easy walking distance of the Champs-Elysées and the Arc de Triomphe. It is about a 5 minutes walk to the closest metro station. For us, the location was just ok, but then, this really depends on where in Paris you want to go to. It is worthy noting that the neighboroud of the hotel is rather low key and quiet, and there are very few restaurants around. However, the upside is that it is pretty quiet at night.

ATMOSPHERE

The decoration of the hotel is stark and modern, with a lot of white and greys. I found that overall, it lacked coziness and warmth and somewhat did not convey the same atmosphere of understated luxury that you can find in other sofitels, particularly the one located near the Concorde.

ROOM

We chose a room of a higher category, which was located on the second floor. The room was big, also decorated mainly in white, and really lacked warmth. There were no paintings or photos on the wall, and it looked a bit empty as well. Again, a question of taste, but I found it quite cold. To note that there was a nice sound and light system. The bed was as usual very comfortable. There was a beautiful en suite bathroom, with a design tub, which unfortunately proved uncomfortable. Bathroom amenities were Hermès. One very positive asset of this hotel is the quality of its isolation. While in the room, you could hear absolutely nothing either outside or in the corridors. Blissful rest assured!

SERVICE

Another Sofitel, but as always a very high quality of service. The staff was friendly, polite and helpful. A real asset for the hotel.

VALUE

Correct, if you can find a good off season deal.

IN SUM

Nice hotel, but the decoration and location are not really to my taste. I will go back to the Sofitel near the Place de la Concorde, which has a style and location I prefer.

The only two things this newly remodeled hotel has going for it are location and a very nice staff. There is nothing user friendly about the rooms or the miniscule elevators. The modular concept made the place very noisy and very poorly laid out. The small room had little space for more than one suitcase. The excuse for a couch felt like a seat from a 1900 train, stiff, upright and uncomfortable. The lighting was absurd. It took almost a half an hour to figure out the multiple switches, the ridiculous blue accent lights and which lights turned which sections on and off. It was by accident that we discovered the bedside reading lights operated by just a touch. It took an equal amount of time and many wasted coffee pods to figure out how the coffee maker worked. No instructions anywhere. The bathroom was another gem of poor planning, with two doors, no toilet and a huge wasted area with a super modern stool that was too low to sit on. The sliding door directly into the bedroom was translucent, creating both noise and undesired light directly on the bedside. The sink was huge and square and drained poorly if at all. It used more water to rinse it than a low flow toilet. The shower head was a rain-shower fixture, so if you did not want to get your hair wet you had to contort yourself to wash. The hand held shower wand was useless if you also wanted to use your hands for soap and a washcloth. By far the worst design in the room was the separate toilet room down the uncarpeted noisy hall right next to the entry door. It had no light switch but when the door was opened motion sensor high intensity lights flooded the room. It felt like opening night on a Broadway stage. A terrible concept for a middle of the night visit, both for the sleepy user and the bedside companion, as the brilliant light flooded the room. Also a terrible concept was not to have a sink in toilet area for hand washing.
The dining experience mirrored the bedroom experience. Nice staff but terrible food. The breakfast buffet was minimal and in the evening one main fish course was truly not edible. This hotel really misses the mark for comfort for the traveler.

it takes a long time for the hot water to come through.
i was with a group, which included dinner on our first night. two people at my table ordered the salmon as an appetizer, the salmon was bad. i ordered the chicken it was okay but the vegitable casserole was awful. service very slow and for a hotel right beside the Arc de Triomphe, very few (maybe 1) person spoke English.
