Well, I should have known from other reviews!!! I booked through Opodo.com, made a special note about arriving late-ish and to hold my room - it failed. When I arrived they asked me for my passport and credit card but then started to panic and called the manager to explain to me that there was no room for me (due to 'problems with some of their rooms') and I was being transferred to their sister hotel 'Royal Hotel'.
To be honest there was nothing I could do about it, they were friendly, professional, paid the taxi ride and the hotel was not far away. AND when I got to the hotel there was a 1998 bottle of Burgundy wine waiting in my room with a letter of apology.
I have no idea how the original and new hotel compare but they were both '4 star' and in walking distance of each other.More
