i was going to use hotel tonight or hotwire to get a hotel. they advertised hotel gavarni as one with a special price so i figured that i may as well call the hotel directly and see if they'll give me the same price. i thought i was doing a favor but they seemed to feel like they were doing me one. anyway, we went and paid slightly above the hotwire rate, but ok. the hotel is pretty and on a great street. the 16th arr is like home to me and i felt right at home on a little side street off of rue de passy. service was great, they are so nice! really, everyone we spoke to was nice, helpful, courteous, etc.
however-- and i'm sorry to write this because the service was so nice-- the room is really not that great. since they supposedly gave us a special rate, we got the classique room, which is their most basic. it's tiny and i mean tiny. the bathroom is smaller than a closet. you can barely stand between the 10 cm wide sink and the toilet. i'm a small person and i banged into everything: door, toilet, shower. shower is miniscule. the walls are paper thin. you can hear everything in the next room. i went down to tell the front desk but i said i'm embarrassed to complain. it was 10 at night, not so late, and the people in the room next to us weren't even shouting or making noise on purpose. they were just talking but it was as if we were in the same room. the guy at the front desk said he was sorry but that was the 'classique' room.
also, no a/c, so if you open your window then you can hear everything on the street. a car, a motorcycle. it also feels like they're in your room.
in sum. lovely, quaint hotel. very clean and good service. but the room was really not that good and we paid 130 euros for it, so it's not like we were paying hostel prices.
nice place, but probably not going back there because of the room.
