“modern, with good amenities and excellent service”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We stayed for a week in July 2013. Were kindly upgraded from a standard double to a bigger room upon arrival. Room was spotlessly clean, decor sleek, shower modern -- with good water pressure and fun side sprinklers. Staff -- all very nice, helpful and efficient. Location is fine, close to a metro hub (Nation) and in a safe pleasant area.

We were there during a heatwave and it was such a relief to return to a well air-conditioned room and so nice to have a small fridge in the room, for cold drinks. There was also a courtesy tray, replenished daily, an in-room safe, free Wi-Fi, good hairdryer (a hose but good), slippers, convenient light fixtures (to read in bed), nice bedding, firm mattress. Plus, a decent size elevator that can fit four people or two with luggage.

Area has many bakeries and restaurants, front desk staff provide fine recommendations. I also like Caffè dei Cioppi, at 159 rue du Faubourg St-Antoine, that's not too far ..cosy, authentic Italian with a charming terrace (reserve in advance) and Mamie Tevennec for crêpes, on Faidherbe corner rue de Charonne. Pâtisserie de Cyril Lignac a few blocks away, on rue Paul Bert corner Chanzy, makes amazing little raspberry tartelettes ..that we sampled at the cute small park right beside it.

Hotel is not near many famous sites, but from nearby Place de la Nation there is the 86 bus that goes to Marais, Ile St-Louis, Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain-des-Prés area, and line 1 metro will get you to many top sites including the Louvre, Place de la Concorde, Champs-Élysées and the Arc. Only minus I found is that it was a bit far to return to during the day, if we wanted to change or rest.

Very pleased with our choice, though in a slightly remote location there are two Metro lines with 5-10 minute walk.
The hotel is well managed, very modern and spotlessly clean. The service from the manager is slightly over the top but if you keep quiet and just listen to him you will be o.k. Avoid standard rooms they are just too small at 10 sq m, spend the extra 20 euros and book a superior room. Breakfast was very good with an excellent choice of food and drinks, but be down early in the morning as the breakfast room is very small and there was a queue some mornings.
Service is everything in this hotel and you only have to ask and the staff will do their best at all times. My thanks to everyone at the hotel.

We stayed here twice in June, a total of 4 nights and were very impressed by this hotel Yes, the rooms are small, but hey you are in Paris, so get out and see it! The management and staff are friendly and helpful and the location is excellent. A confident recommendation to stay at this hotel if size of the rooms is not a priority for you.

Room Tip: There are larger rooms, request when booking.

Recently returned from Paris, had a super two night stay with my husband in this small but perfectly formed hotel. We stayed in the hotel's standard double room, which was small (normal in a city like Paris, or London) but spotlessly clean, with comfortable beds, a super en-suite and a fantastic power shower! Very modern, chic, boutique style rooms with everything you might need, ideal for a short city break. The hotel is located away from the main tourist areas which is perfect after a long day sight-seeing to return to the peace and quiet! We could however easily walk to the Bastille area (about 5-10 mins) and the main tourist locations are only a few stops by metro. Metro is cheap and easy to use too. The staff at Grand Hotel Francais are kind, welcoming and knowledgable. Nothing is too much, they were happy to chat and inform us about the area and the city as a whole. They recommended excellent restaurants and areas of interest. Breakfast included in our room rate, was a good self service continental with plenty of choice. I would be happy to recommend this hotel and would certainly stay there again, the friendly and helpful staff made it a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Francais for three nights during a blazing hot August. The air conditioning at the hotel was perfect. The free WI-FI is a bonus when planning your day or doing business.

The hotel is located near Rue d.Boulets Metro as well as the large interchange at Nation, from where you can get anywhere in Paris. The neighbourhood is smart and clean and is much cheaper than the centre of Paris. There's plenty of good restaurants and bars nearby, including those recommended by the hotel.

The room is small but very clean. The best is comfortable and there's plenty of room to store clothes etc.

I'd happily recommend this hotel and would use again.

We stayed at Grand Hotel Francais based on the TA reviews. Yes the room was a bit small, but it's Paris. Yes it's a little way away from the touristy areas, but one of the best underground systems in the world makes it a breeze to get there. Yes some of the cable channels didn't work, but this is Paris - what the hell are you doing watching TV?

Having said that, I kid you not, this was far and away the best hotel in which we stayed during this Europe trip. Zyad and his team are absolutely brilliant and could not have been more helpful. Six stars.
