Hotel Hibiscus
Ranked #1,710 of 1,804 Hotels in Paris
Reviewed November 18, 2007

This hotel doesn't even merit a rating. Fire exits and extinguishers are non-existent, dingy corrridors, sheets with some strands of hair from previous occupants. To add insult, toilet roll, half-used probably from the last 2 occupants. Worse, some groaning and moaning can be heard from the next room, not even an ear plug can drown out the nightmare audio.
They even have to borrow a pillowcase from the hotel beside them.

Breakfast that is served with a not so tasty croissant. Not even a hot drink available. Can't even get a drink from the vending machine coz it's broken.

It really doesn't deserve to be in Paris. IT'S A HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARD HOTEL.

Let me first warn other travellers, thinking of visiting Paris in the summer! The temperature often reaches 30-35 degrees Celsius (86-95F) in July (when we were there), & it's just too much when you want to spend the day exploring the vast city by feet. Let March-April or September-October be the months of your choice instead! Climate is much similar to the one found in NYC, for example. This hotel doesn't have any AC facilities, and it gets HOT! Rooms are incredibly filthy & dark. Bathrooms cramped with cracked porcelain & dirt where you least want to find it. In our room, there was only one naked bulb hanging from the ceiling + 2 bedside lamps, none of them working. Old shoes were outside our door when we entered the room for the first time, and we found dirty old socks under the bed (among other things). The 'breakfast' consists of a couple of 'danish' (greasy croissants), some candy-like marmalade & simple coffe or milk. But worst of all: the manager tried to rip us off, by charging for the room twice! I had payed in advance via the website, and of course had the voucher with me when checking in. Despite that, the manager claimed that we hadn't payed at all. My fiancee actually started to cry at that point. Partly because of the look of the hotel when we arrived, partly because they were trying to rip us off. Incredibly enough, they suddenly gave up the attempt & let us in to our room anyway. We payed a little more than 70€ for the room, & when I booked it seemed very cheap. Afterwords I realize that there are hundreds of much cheaper hotels in Paris, offering everything Hibiscus do not. And without having to take the Metro to go to the city centre. My advice to every traveller is to think twice before picking this hotel for your Paris stay - it just might ruin the whole experience....

This hotel has a good location because you have the underground station near the hotel, but the services that the hotel offers are very poor. The decoration and the furniture was very old, and the breakfast was so poor. Instead, if you want a cheap hotel in Paris situated in a good district, this would be a good option.

Please, please, believe me and avoid this hotel: it's really, really bed: filthy bedrooms, everything is broken, tiny bathrooms, windows didnt' close properly and it was winter and the radiator was broken....what is more: they made us pay more than dealed in the reservation and they don't want to give our money back.
SIMPLY CHOOSE ANOTHER HOTEL.

please avoid this place. the rooms are not clean, the bathrooms not working. It is the kind of hotel where when you get in you think 'well is the hotel open'? It is just next to hotel bristol (same owner). It is really a shame because it havs a superb location and with a bit of money invested this palce could be fantastic. It is the kind of hotel where you always have a doubt when you leave to room; thinking, well I hope I will find my luggage in the room when back from walking!!! One more thing, just before check out, I watched under the bed to check I did not forget anything : it as so dirty with tissues, etc .... In that location, 50 meters away from this one, I would than recommend HOTEL REPUBLIQUE (rue albert thomas) +/- same rate but better value !!!!

Ok so I have stayed in many budget hotels in Paris and this was, well a bit rubbish. Things that had been advertised like a hair dryer didnt exist, we had to "go buy one" joked one of the many male receptionists, hilarious I thought false advertising can be just hilarious. You had to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the lift which was inbetween all flights so again you had to walk up more stairs when you got out of the lift, should be pointed out on for disabled guests wishing to stay here. The bedroom was a bit laughable, although the bathroom was ok and the shower was nice you had to hold it up unless you are really short, like a baby... The room was tiny and when we arrived we had no light, so we had to call reception and they came and put a light bulb into a tiny light at the other end of the room, you could barely see, I wondered while it had no bulb in the first place and settled on that the room had been closed up until that day as it smelt of damp. The curtains hadnt been washed in about 20 years and it was as if the room was built around the window as it didnt open properly. To conclude there are far better hotels for this price even though it is very cheap. Good points, decent bathroom and the hotel itself was very quiet. Breakfast was thrown together and could have been better, if only we got a plate...
