Hotel Lutetia
Ranked #1,151 of 1,803 Hotels in Paris
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Hotel Lutetia is in a great location in the middle of the St. Germaine, lots of shopping, cafes, etc. Not a whole lot to do late night so be prepared to taxi to other areas in Paris. The lobby is impressive and was fun to sit and people watch or enjoy a cocktail.

The hotel is spending A LOT of time and money on marketing as I have seen it lately in many magazines, travel sites and they were even filming a popular reality TV show while I was there. If they would invest just a portion of that into the actual hotel experience itself it could be magnificent. Otherwise, guests like me show up with high expectations only to leave disappointed and not want to recommend it to others.

The rooms left A LOT to be desired. We were moved from our first room (when the ceiling started leaking onto our bed...not slightly dripping but pouring onto our bed and luggage). The second room was not much better and the only way to shower was with completely hot water or freezing cold water. Apparently the pipe that connected the two was not working properly. Again, we're in Paris. I understand old plumbing, old buildings, part of the charm. But the staff seemed utterly annoyed that we would mention it let alone switch rooms. From what I understand there are some amazing rooms in this hotel (neither of the 2 we had were) When asked if they had a room where the basics worked properly they said yes but there would be an additional charge for it! Now we did NOT book this hotel at a discount rate and if the hotel failed to give us a usable room, any other hotel of this caliber/price would have gone out of their way to accommodate.

Besides the great location, I will say that the breakfast was one of the best I have ever had! There were literally dozens of kinds of honey, jams and spreads. The most delicious croissants and an orange marmalade so divine I would have like to wash my face in it! Truly it was a feast every morning!

I really wanted to love this hotel and hope they can get it together as it has so much potential!

Room Tip: Ask, no insist, on one of the recently renovated rooms! But be prepared for them to upcharge you!

This hotel is in a Great location, the st. Germaine area, walking distance to many shops, sites and the lovely cafe Le Duex Margo best part about it is that it's not overly touristy. Yes, this hotel is aging a bit but its still nice.

Room Tip: Great Area to stay in

The staff of the hotel were very welcoming ,offering us a major upgrade at no extra cost.
The hotel is very well located being a very short walk to the centre of St Germain ,surrounded by good cafes ,boutiques ,antique shops and galleries.
I would really recommend the hotel over many others in the area which i have stayed in over the previous years.

Room Tip: Request a room at the front with a view.

Location: perfect if you want to linger in St Germain, the heart of intellectual and literary Paris, bourgeois and preppy, many shops, le Bon Marhé shopping mall is just acrros and the new Hermes is just around the corner, ...

Rooms: charming but old, very old, happily bedding is good, one seems to sleep in our old Lucy aunt bedroom where the furniture is older than herself ...

Bar and brasserie : nice art deco furniture in much better condition than in the rooms, comfortable, cozy atmosphere, good service
We had dinner at the brasserie on New YEAR eve, relatively high prices but it was really delicious and hearty.

Staff: friendly and welcoming

Good news: the hotel will finally undertake renovations end of 2013!

Amazing staff, great location across from the Bon Marché, historical building, excellent sea food brasserie, the charm of imperfection, nice rooms, tasty breakfast, free wifi, valet parking, live music bar and salons. I have not found a better place when we are in Paris.

We worked with a travel agent to select this property. We loved its location in the St. Germain section of Paris. It was located right by Metro and bike rental stations and in the heart of wonderful shopping and dining. It was an easy walk to Notre Dame, the Latin Quarter and the Bon Marche. We booked a deluxe room, which is 270 square feet. I think we may have gotten upgraded at check-in because even though it was a deluxe room, it was incredibly spacious with French doors overlooking the main boulevard. Charming! The bathroom was huge for any hotel - European or American - with a towel warmer, double sinks, bathtub, glass-enclosed shower and a bidet. The bed was hard and the king is two twins pushed together, but that was my experience throughout Europe and this was no different. The room was what I'd call "shabby chic" in that it had reaky floors, wall-to-wall carpeting that probably was due to be replaced and that smell like your grandmother's house. The walls were paper-thin and we could hear everything in the room next door. It was also constantly hot, even when we turned the heat off. So we just opened the French doors and enjoyed the crisp air and view. Having said all of that, I don't think anything less of the hotel. It's a grand dame of a property and all of this makes the hotel what it is. The staff was very professional and service-oriented, although if you're looking for friendly, American-like staff, you're not going to get it here. We loved the breakfast buffet, which was included in our room package, and I'd recommend trying it at least once (and then you can skip lunch until the afternoon or just have an early dinner). It's not the Ritz-Carlton, but it's a very good hotel with a can't-beat-it location.

Lutetia is very well located. It is a nice hotel, but it could use some refurbishment. Rooms are small (but that is average Paris). The brasserie could be much better. Price is reasonable for Paris standards. Itmis good, but could be better.
