To catch the TGV in route Paris/Milano is a wonderful experience:
Paris Gare de Lyon to Milano Porta Garibaldi. Gare de Lyon is one of the most beautiful train stations in Europe, and if you take the train ver early in the morning, is like seeing paris waking up.
We took the TGV in wintertime, first class coach.
Its a lovely, classie and speedy journey through the snowie fields in France.
About lunch time you will be crossing the Alps and the villages, from the french side to the italian one.
Being a train lover, TGV represents one of the highest train experiences.

Enjoy the ride!

Took the TGV from Calais Frethun to Paris which was very quick and arrived exactly on time, but with a 20 minutes or so wait in Lille. The real adventure began with the Duplex service to Barcelona. We had first class seats on the upper deck,(not as expensive as you might think),all the way to Figeres in Spain. I couldn't believe it when we reached Valence in the Rhone Alps in about 2 hours. From then on the scenery is fantastic as you cross and recross the Rhone all the way to the the Riviera. It slows a bit then but that's good because there's lots to look at. At FIgeres you leave the French train and walk across the platform onto the Spanish train to Girona and Barcelona. A great journey and much more relaxing than flying.

Both journeys were overcrowded and hot, no snacks/drinks on the way as the bar was closed but now thankful of that as the return journey snacks/drinks were dismal. If you can sleep all the way its a fast way to travel.

Thought it would be a long trip (more than 50 km) from Paris to Geneva but it was over sooner than we expected. Very smooth journey. Meal on board the train was served quite promptly.

When you live in France, you must take your kids to Paris on a TGV. That's what we did and they thoroughly enjoyed the five hour ride from Cannes without having to change trains. Make sure to book first class as being stuck in crowded second class can be a bit of a pain, even on a fancy TGV. It was a smooth and convenient ride into the center of Paris (Gare de Lyon) without the hassle of having to drive to an airport, deal with luggage & security and painful airport transfers in Paris. TGV vs. EasyJet. My vote goes to SNCF. They are friendly and there are no hidden fees!
