“1st Class from Paris Gare de Lyon to Geneve Cornavin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

We booked three months in advance, and the seats were going fast! After checking the departure times and prices, we decided to get the 1st Class as it was just slightly more expensive than the 2nd Class.

We had wider seats that reclined, and were served a welcome drink immediately. Then we were served a full breakfast which was quite filling (only for passengers going to Switzerland though - it did stop twice in SE France). We were served one more drink before arriving in Geneva.

Not crowded, quiet and fast. Best way to go from Paris to Geneva.

“Paris to cannes - easy and relaxing trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

After finishing a week in Paris, we chose to get the TGV to Cannes for a week in the French Riveria (around a 4 hour journey).

The train was beautiful, comfy and clean (especially compared to English trains) and it was quite easy to sleep the journey away. The train was mostly filled with french people but there were some other English people. All announcements were in french, however, it was pretty simple to translate what the driver was saying.

The carriages were quite, even people with babies took them out if they started crying. The journey was fast and took us straight into the centre of Cannes - couldn't have been better! Wish there was a similar service of such standard in the UK.

“Train journey from Ebbsfleet to Montpellier”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2013

We live in Surrey and so a journey into Central London is not a first choice. We chose to drive to Ebbsfleet, park the car there for a week (cost £57.00) and take the Eurostar to Lille and change onto the TGV to Montpellier. So incredibly easy! Left Ebbsfleet at 11.30 and even with a 1.5 hour stopover in Lille arrived in Montpellier at 20.00, French time. Return journey was even shorter:
Left Montpellier at 13.30 - arrived in Ebbsfleet 19.30! Collected the car (a short 10 minute walk) and were back in Surrey by 20.30. The fares were £70 per person each way (we booked ahead and benefitted from "senior discounts") - but no airport hassle, no hanging around for 2 hours in Gatwick, Stanstead etc each way! Thoroughly recommended, relaxing and pleasant. One note of warning - food on the TGV is non-existent -or fairly awful - take provisions with you! It is also pointless booking first class on the TGV as it is really no better than the standard seating. We booked through the London office of SNCF - extrremely helpful and pleasant staff

“Don't expect luxury!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

We paid the extra for 1st class on the Zurich-Paris route, as a treat on our way back from holiday. We expected more room, which we got, a welcome drink and food served at our seats, as described on the website. What we got was miserable cabin crew, a tiny plastic cup of Luke-warm Coke and 1/2 a sandwich. We only saw the on board crew once in 31/2 hours and then the poor lad was really harassed as he handed out our meagre rations. If we had known that was all we were getting, we could have headed to the buffet and bought something. The only good thing was we arrived at the right time to Gare Du Nord, so we could get off and find something to eat!

“Trains Cancelled”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

We booked to take the train from Nice to Paris and were looking forward to a fast comfortable ride.
We were to board at Nice at 6:55am. We arrive at 6:30 to be told that there was track work and the trains would not be running for 4 days. We asked to speak to management who advised us to take the bus to Cannes then pick up the rail. We did this but were then told that we would miss our booked fast train to Paris. After a harrowing journey we arrived at Marseille RS. As we had missed our train to Paris we took the regional train it was so packed we had to stand crushed in by our other weary travellers - this did not help the anxiety levels. We realized that we would not make our paid and booked hotel in time, we got off early in Dijon and booked another. Arriving at the Dijon RS to catch the 9:30 am train we were advised that due to track work there would be no trains. Luckily I had a friend staying in Clamecy who picked us up in their car. After spending two relaxing weeks with our friends we went to the Clamecy RS the day before to book our train to the airport. We were advised that the trains had been cancelled but if we took the 5:00 am bus we could get there. We did and arrived 14 hours early - what a relief. The rail staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
