“Great location, superb service”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

The hotel's location, the staffs, the attention , the service, and the nearby amenities combined make this a terrific choice. Luxumberg garden is less than 5 minutes walking distance. Metro line 4 station Vavin is a block away- take you to St Michel with connection to St Michel-Notre Dame RER stations B & C with RER C to Versailles Chateau. there are bakeries around every corner- particularly recommend the one near Luxumberg garden named Julien. walking distance to Le Rotonde. Le Coupole- good restaurants plus other smaller cafes. We took Air France Shuttle line 4 to Gare Montparnesse, and it was 10-15 minutes walk to hotel. Upon returning to CDG, the hotel arranged a shared shuttle for 36 euro for two people. Very reasonable. our room is located on the 4th floor- small room but well furnished with a full modern bath. There are hair dryer, ironing board, and warming tower rack. The room was quiet and well serviced.

Hotels can be pricey in Paris, and this is truly your best option in every way. Please read carefully, this is from a person who has been to the city several times (3 times between 2011 & 2012!!)

Location:

The area is very close to St-Germain des Pres which is one of the main attractions you must see if you're in Paris. Moreover, you'll be able to truly experience the authentic "Parisian" ambiance, as it is located in a lovely small street, and surrounded by beautiful buildings, architecture and charming balconies. Very nice area. It is super easy to get around with the metro map; there is really no need to stay near the Champs Elysee; which are easily accessible anyway.

Rooms: I am a neat freak who picks only nicely located, and good looking hotels. Therefore, trust me when I say that you will be completely smitten by your room at Chaplain. They are modern, stylish and contain perfectly equipped and modern bathrooms. Not your typical basic bathroom; I'm talking stainless steel, modern toilet (button to flush), no curtains - nice glass. Also, the bed has nice white sheets (I hate floral prints - it makes me feel like I can't tell if they are clean or not) TV, wifi, the whole nine yards.

Service: Very kind staff, helpful and pleasant. Absolutely no complaints there.

I am very adamant about recommending this hotel because the quality overwhelmingly surpasses the price, and you will truly have one thing less to worry about - especially in Paris where a 3 star is generally overpriced and deceiving.

Stop looking, start booking! Hotel Chaplain Rive Gauche is the way to go!

This very nice and comfortable hotel is based in a quiet road in the 6th arrondisement and close to the lovely Luxembourg Gardens. I travelled there directly from Gare du Nord on line 4 with no problems at all. The hotel was easy to find and just a few minutes walk from Vavin metro station. Its a safe and pleasant area to be located. There are many nice restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk to suit all tastes and price ranges. A small cinema was nearby as well.

The hotel is a delightful Paris town house. The welcome and check in was warm and friendly and did not take too much time. Everything was explained carefully in English and there was a lift to take me and my luggage to my room. The reception area was well decorated and comfortable with access to books, drinks and the internet. Free wifi was available throughout the hotel.

The bedroom was a reasonable size with a large, very comfortable bed including proper substantial pillows! The rooms was very quiet, extremely clean, well appointed and relaxing to stay in. A flat screen tv was fixed to the wall and a built in cupboard had proper wooden coathangers which were not secured to the internal rail. There was a FREE minibar in the cupboard with soft drinks. The was also a free easy to use safe. It is small details like that which make some hotels stand out from others! The bathroom had an efficient shower, was well equipped, well lit and had not only a large mirror but also a magnifying wall mounted mirror. The air con quickly warmed up the room when switched on (it was cold outside on the street!)

Breakfast was available on the ground floor the following morning. A taxi that had been booked for me arrived on time. Check out and payment was completed efficiently.

To summarise, an excellent hotel where everything worked with very nice staff (who cared) in a brilliant location and a very comfortable and clean room. Excellent value for money in a city where hotels can be expensive. I will return!

Room Tip: Make sure to ask if the room has a shower or a bath.

Booked online for a bargain £159 per night for our double room.

Possibly not such a deal at their list prices, but I wouldn't know!

Staff were very friendly at check in, and allowed me to continue bumbling in my poor French.

Room was super clean and, although the usual Parisian townhouse tiny, very comfortable and nicely decorated.

Air con didn't seem to actually cool the otherwise toasty room, but this wasn't a problem in February with openable windows!

Bathroom was also very clean, but the shower could have done with a little more pressure.

We didn't manage to have breakfast, but did like the touch of free bottles water, coke, sprite and orange juice included in the minibar.

Great location for the area of Montparnasse - far more local than the Latin quarter, and near some excellent eateries and cafés full of locals.

Down a back street so very quiet.

Only real niggle would be thin lumpy pillows.

Will definitely return on my next Paris trip.

I travelled to Paris with my partner from the 13th to the 17th of February for the Valentines period. I am very specific when it comes to booking hotels and after months of trolling the internet I came across this little gem. The reviews were glowing and I have to say they were pretty accurate. Located in the Montparnasse area it was a very central hotel. The Port Royal RER station only a 10 minute walk away, this was a 30 minute journey direct from CDG Aiport and the Vavine metro station was litterally just across the road. (If you're feeling up to it and the weather is nice - the Eiffel Tower is only a 40 minute stroll away and a plesant walk). There are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding area, Le Rotonde in particular. We ate there on Valentines Night.

When booking the hotel there was a little confusion which annoyed me slightly. They would not accept a reservation unless it was booked with a credit card... me nor my partner had a credit card and they did threaten to cancel the booking although I was more than happy to use my debit card to secure it athough the hotel was aware and had confirmed that we would be paying by cash on arrival. After many e-mail and telephone calls my Father agreed to use his credit card to secure the booking. This was an inconvenience to me and it was slightly embarrassing.

When we arrived we were greeted by a vert smart gentleman. He provided us with a map of Paris and explained where things were and the breakfast procedure. We didn't have breakfast booked as part of our reservation but went down on one occation. I didn't feel that 14Euros each was not particularly good value for a continental breakfast and cold coffee but the selection of meats, cheeses and pastries were nice enough.

We stayed in Room 51 (Club Queen Room) which was on the top floor. The lift is very small, but big enough to fit one of us and the luggage... The room was a fantasic size and extrermely comfortable for 4 nights. I was a little dubious about the reviews in relation to size... but it was perfect. The wardrobe had PROPER coat hangers and a safe which was free of charge to use. The mini bar was a lovely touch and was replenished each day with water, orange juice and 2 cans of pepsi. There was free wifi which was great as the roaming charges on our iPhone were quite expensive. The decor was very minimal and had a massive canvas above the bed. The bathroom was spotless and the linnen changed daily. The only downside was that being in France there was only one English channel on the TV... BBC World News, so we were pretty clued up on what was going on around the world.

On departure - our flight was not until 9pm, although we requested a late check-out we were advised the night before that we had to be out the room by 12pm but the hotel were happy to hold our luggage until we required. This gave us plenty of time to do last minute souvenir shopping.

All in all a lovely hotel for a lovely trip. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again in the future.

This hotel is ideally located for access to central Paris, while being in a quiet and charming street. It is very clean and modern. Of course, the rooms are relatively small, but this is Paris and therefore to be expected. The bathroom was modernly designed and had everything we needed. The staff were absolutely lovely, and breakfast in our room was delicious. (There wasn't even a surcharge for the room service.) We will definitely use this hotel again when staying overnight in Paris, as it is very good value!
