“High on charm, low on comfort”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2007

This is a very charming, quaint, very French hotel in a decent, convenient location. It's got restaurants closeby and is good for exploring Montmartre, which is a great area. But, otherwise, you pretty much need a subway or two to get anywhere. The Saint-Lazare station is good and closeby but you have to go deep underground, walk quite a lot inside the station and change at least once to get places. It is not half as conveinient as staying in the Latin Quarter, which is close to the museums, Notre Dame, the main gardens etc.
As for the rooms, they were small (what do you expect in Paris) but had a good-sized armoire. The rooms were very charming as well. But, here's the downside. I was sleeping in my room and I woke up early in the morning to realize I couldn't turn the heat on because the hotel had not turned the heat on, claiming it was summer (it was September and in the 50's at night). In the morning, we woke up and begged the owner to turn the heat on, which he did after protesting that it was so warm outside. Who the hell are they to decide what's a comfortable temperature for me or for anyone else? They did not leave the heat on consistently and we had to ask for it repeatedly. Only the owner could turn the heat on and the guys at the front desk at night (typically when it got cold) had little clue about what we were asking for. Despite all the lovely charm of this quaint hotel, I did not have a good experience there.

The hotel is ideally situated for Monmartre and is in a pretty, quiet area close to the shops and places to eat.
The room was very clean and comfortable, and the staff spoke very good English and very friendly and helpful.
Would definately stay here again next time we go to Paris!

A lovely well kept 30 room hotel in a residential neighborhood in the 8th Arrondisement within walking distance to the Villier Metro. My room was tiny but clean and well maintained. Service was unobtrusive and professional. Even though located on a busy street it was quiet. The breakfast was not worth the $ since there are many cafes and brasseries with ambiance near by. The breakfast of 1 croissant, 1 roll, and 1 bain de chocolat with orange juice and bad coffee was $13EU. The lift is tiny and you have to be very careful when stepping on and off since the floor landing is very small and one could fall if not careful. Staff was helpful and polite at all times.

  • Liked — Location and Price
  • Disliked — Very small lift and tiny spiral steps going up 6 floors.

My husband and I stayed at this wonderful hotel in the luthier district of Paris enjoying a quiet, very comfortable room. Walked through the surrounding interesting neighborhoods as well as to the city center without any problems. Metro stops are also conveniently close.

There is a small market directly across the street as well as a wonderful Lebanese Restaurant on the corner.

Hotel staff were kind and friendly. Breakfast was fine. Would gladly return here again.

  • Liked — Quiet location.
  • Disliked — No sink in separate toilet facility.

My husband and I stayed 6 nights in the New Orient Hotel in Paris from 10-16 August. We picked it from Trip Advisor's list after looking at several other hotels. It was our first stay in Europe, so from what I've heard the size of the room was average. We had enough room for our luggage, bed, bath, and ourselves. There was also a small desk and a nice wardrobe to hold our nicer clothes. Our room was only 108 euro/night and the window opened out onto a courtyard. Sepp & Catherine Wehrle (the owners) and several of their staff were excellent in communicating beforehand on e-mail to let me know about the room options and also how to get to the hotel from CDG. They were friendly and helpful with all of our questions and needs during our stay.
The hotel is in an excellent location in a quiet neighborhood just blocks from either the Europe or Villiers Metro stations. We took the Roissybus to Opera and got on the Metro to our hotel from there. We were close to shopping, dining, and just southwest of the beautiful Montmarte neighborhood. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean, pleasant place to sleep (the bed was quite comfortable and about the size of a US king-size mattress). It was nice to be able to get away from the very touristy areas, but they were always a quick subway trip away.

  • Liked — Location and comfortable bed
  • Disliked — Small rooms, but hey it's Europe!

Truly a marvelous hotel with all the amenities and a gracious staff. Breakfast was awesome and convenient; not just bread and coffee but everything from fruit, cereal, and yogurt to croissants, hot chocoloate and tea. The staff helped us plan our daily excursions to the extent of calling to make reservations (recommended wonderful restaurants) or to get a cab. The rooms were cozy and romantic and the bathroom was immaculate and large. We loved our stay there. It made our Paris experience even more delightful than we imagined. I'm from Tennessee and that's why I can't truthfully say "Southern Hospitality in Paris!"

I read about this hotel in the New York Times and was a little hesitant due to the location, but it turned out to be a gem. The rooms were small but newly refurnished and very clean. The people at the desk were very helpful - in English or French - with directions, getting cabs, etc. We also appreciated the free internet in the lobby. They also lent us a room for a few hours after we had checked out before our flight left so we could shower and rest. The neighborhood is actually quite convenient - near to two Metro stops - near a supermarket (under renovation until August), a Monoprix, cafes, a creperie, small Asian takeout place, laundromat, pharmacy, plus only a few blocks from the Saint Lazare train station where you can get the train to Versalles. I'd highly recommend it.

  • Liked — The very friendly attitude of the people who work there.
  • Disliked — Small rooms.
