You do wonder sometimes when you read TripAdvisor reviews if they can be totally accurate but I am pleased to report that, in the case of The New Orient Hotel, all the very complementary reviews that I read before we went were spot on!
We travelled on the day of the air traffic controllers strike so had to take an earlier plane and arrived earlier than we had originally planned, I emailed the day before to advise them and it was clearly not a problem. In fact nothing was a problem, including Madame popping over the road to the dry cleaners to explain that I wanted my jacket cleaned asap and also arranging that they bring it back to the hotel for me! I wonder how many hotels in the UK would bother!?
We had a lovely room, facing the street, double french windows on to a balcony with red trailing geraniums. We had the window open a couple of nights because it was warm and street noise was not a problem, we slept well, but when the windows were closed there was absolutely no sound from outside.
We had breakfast in the hotel, it was lovely, good coffee and a choice of teas to go with the bread and pastries, well worth the seven euros! Service at breakfast was good.
I could write reams but to sum up, the hotel was lovely, clean, nicely furnished, just a bit 'different', but the staff were the greatest asset, they were wonderful! The cleaners did a really good job daily, the women serving breakfast just wanted to get it right every time, the day staff very helpful, and the night staff brilliant! If your French is rusty (or just plain not good) it will not be a problem here, everyone went out of their way to make the trip to Paris as good as it could be, with helpful advice, maps and local knowledge. The place was amazing!
There was a questionnaire to complete to ask about the service and to make any suggestions about improvements, the only one we could think of was to get another hotel, they were fully booked and turning prospective customers away! Perhaps the owners might consider this in the future, in which case the only dilemma would be to decide which of their hotels to choose!?
