Such a refreshing place t o stay! The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the little things were so nice-- i.e. water was offered as we waited to check in; water in the room (for free!); an ipad with all sorts of helpful hints given to you upon arrival and a nice, big comfy bed. The view of the Canal was lovely, albeit a bit loud, but we didn't mind at all. Would definitely come back..

Le Citizen is a very modern well appointed hotel with a collection of excellent staff. The building has just twelve rooms or so, which inclines staff to a much more personal approach to your stay. The rooms themselves are compact but we spent little time there so it was not a issue. The staff speak impeccable English which is a joy and it took all the hassle of making do with my pigeon French null and void. Pierre who booked us in is a delight and very welcoming. He also seems to have a limitles number of contacts in Paris and I would advise making full use of him to make the most of your visit. From Versailles Palace to the restaurant round the corner, he seems to know them all. Its also worth noting, each room gets their own complimentary Ipad which is brilliant for planning the day ahead, staying in contact with home etc. For the less technologically adept, you can make free international calls to landlines so you can tell everyone at home what they're missing.

Our room which was the budget option and all appear to overlook the St Martin Canal and the bustling streets on either side. On the plus side it makes for people watching from your room. The canal is an area were people gather in the evening to have a bottle of wine and a picnic. Whilst this presents a great opportunity to integrate with the locals, this can go on until 2am. The resulting noise will irritate light sleepers. Ear plugs are advised for those concerned. This was the only fault I could find. The hotel restaurant again is compact and does a variety of Japanese food. We ate out so couldn't comment on this.

Location wise this area is ideal for The Eurostar traveller. Its 2 stops from Gard du Nord to Jacques Bonsergeant on the Metro. Then a 5 minute walk to the hotel. This will give you back half a day when you consider the hassle in getting to and from the airport. Apart from that its a brief 10 minute morning walk to Republique to head off sight seeing. Whilst your there just east of the Metro is a bakery called Brocco. This is THE place to have breakfast. Pain Raisin is superb and the coffee is the equal. Staff speak limited English but are keen to do their best and pointing is more than acceptable. Whilst your there you can purchase sandwiches/cakes/drinks etc for the days outing. Do try the chocolate baguette which is not to be confused with pain au chocolat. Its an entire chocolate french stick, soft baked with choc chips.

Its best suited to couples and those who will seek out a vibrant nightlife.

We had a great stay at Le Citizen. It's a beautifully decorated hotel in a great area - trendy neighborhood with a nearby metro. Walking distance to Marais. There are many restaurants around, we went to the one recommended by the hotel and had a marvelous experience - and the best part was that there were no other tourists.
The room we had was small, but the hotel made best use of the space with the set up of furniture. It would be ideal for a single traveler, but also worth the value for a couple. Pierre, the concierge was very helpful & friendly. The hotel was modern & high tech (FREE WIFI!!!!) We got an iPad, however it was in french and it was locked, so we couldn't change the language. I'm sure that if we asked the staff to download something in particular for us they would've, but we hadn't bothered. Also, VERY good coffee for breakfast.

The hotel is so different from others we have tried in Paris. It is fresh, contemporary, light and stylish. Yet there is a genuine warmth and friendliness in the staff. Because the hotel is small, you feel you are part of the local neighbourhood when you stay. It is surrounded by small restaurants and cafes all to adding to the local feel. The hotel is also in walking distance to the major railway stations. I would highly recommend this Le Citizen.

Great boutique hotel overlooking the canal. Modern, clean and comfortable with helpful pleasant staff. Located a 5 minute walk from the nearest Metro in an area with lots of cool cafes and near the places the locals shop; just far enough away from the tourist bustle to be fun & refreshing without being inconvenient. Room was tiny (typical for Paris?) but comfortable - could be a problem for people who are untidy; shower was great. Liked everything about the place and would definitely stay there again.

This was a very nice experience! The room was small, as expected, but every detail of it, from the sparkling water to the magiq towel, and conditioner in the shower, was exquisite!
The owner, the wonderful Sophie, was ever-present and super helpfull and friendly. the breakfast was superb, but the champagne bottle we got from them to enjoy at the canal was pricey. The location is great, and we had som really good meals nearby: At La Verre Volé and Chez Philou. All in all, a superb hotel-experience! We will be back!

Room Tip: This hotel is eco friendly!
