a place best enjoyed if you like unattentive and unfriendly waiters, overpriced beverages (25 cl Coke for 7,60 Euros, 33 cl beer for 8,50) and poorly prepared food ( french fries were rock hard, steak of poor quality und burned). Never again. Consider that the tourist buses driving through St. Germain des Pres pass by in dozens, 5 meters next to you and perfuming your table with diesel. Breakfast, quite early, is reasonably priced and you don't have the buses.

We dined here twice during our second stay in paris, two very different experiences!

1. Great meals, steak fries and a hamburger, and we could fault neither. The burger was to die for, with generous chunks of tomato and goats cheese, and a tasty meat Patti. Frites were clearly homemade, tasty, crisp and really good. Wine was our bad, we ordered a bottle which we didn't particularly like. Note: drinks are expensive!! Nutella and pear crumble was really really really sweet (I guess that's the point?) But the apple tart tatin was great.

2. More disappointing. Both ordered roast poulet, one with frites and with mash. Jus/sauce was tasty. Husband's chicken was good, a breast half and lots of meat. Mine somehow had the chicken carcass, complete with chicken kidneys! And only a chicken leg in terms of meat ...I was not happy, and it wasn't great. Asked for ketchup for the chips three times before it arrived. Drinks arrived after the meals. We ordered sparkling water also, which was super expensive. We ordered 'just a beer' and a glass of house white wine....we got rose and a €10 tap beer (ridiculously expensive and a rip off). So i'd recommend asking for a drink menu (not standardly provided) so that you don't get stung with drinks!

Not sure I'd return after experience 2...

We'd noticed during our trip that this brasserie was consistently busy at all times of day - always a good sign. It's located on a corner, opposite the famous Laduree macaroon shop. Dinner menu was traditional simple french fare, I started with haricots verts salad, and DH had coddled egg with smoked salmon; then we both had poulet and frites. The specials board was more adventurous, but we wanted to stick with the traditional dishes. All the food was executed to a high standard, the frites was wonderfully crisp and not at all greasy. No room for dessert. Good choice of wine by the glass, although a little pricy compared to other venues in the same area.
Our waiter was charming, suppressing a kind smile at our feeble attempts at ordering in French (especially my lapsing into Spanish mid-order!). He then moved us seamlessly into English.
Approx 60 euros, very good value.

Ate here at lunchtime today and was left with a very bad taste in the mouth which was not caused by the reheated french fries alone.

I ordered roast chicken which was stringy and not particularly roasting hot. I had the impression it had been left somewhere for a few minutes which baffled me as the service was quick, if anything too quick. The fries had been reheated and had no crispness about them.
My girlfriend had a salad which she described a "a mess". Their salad of the day was avocado and raspberry with tagliatelle which looked another mess.

To cap it ll we were charged 26.40 euros for two large glasses of rose. They guy had just given us the most expensive without offering us any choice.

I love Paris and had a couple of really lovely meals over the course of the last three days but this place was completely taking the p.

We where told that Saint Germain was a great place to get some food and coffee that wasnt one of the tourist/fast food places.

It was really close to the Saint Germain chappel but far enough away that is wasnt too expensive.

I had a lovely blue cheese salad and a cappuchino. The coffee was really good but a little bitter on the aftertaste as most french coffee tends to be. A fruity with roasted almond taste.

The salad was fantasic and full if flavour.

They also have a wide selection of beer and wine but we didnt try any.

The service was great. With our very basic french, the waiters spoke english and where very friendly and quick.

:D
