We used the little train to go up the hill to see this amazing area of Montmarte. It was everything I had hoped for. Great things to see, good restaurants and lots of souvenirs to find. The artists were plentiful with good prices for their original works. Lots of photo ops everywhere.

Beautiful walk up to the basilca and the views are worth all the steps but be careful of the gypsy ladies who are pretending to work for a deaf charity requesting donations.. they don’t even keep up the pretence very well and can be seen chattering away to each other yet make out they are dead and mute when doing their pitch!!

I’m not big fan of cathedrals but being in Paris you have to go to the Sacre Cour. The place is beautiful and there’s a park and a carrousel in the lower levels before getting to the church. Just know beforehand that there are 300 steps that you’ll have to climb to get there.

a difference between one great nation and a weak one is the fact that the first is able to recover itself after a big failure
France has been defeated by Prussia, in 1870, and this was a drama, totally unexpected
French people’s reaction was to reconsider its behavior, and decided to give a sign of penitence, but also of hope and faith, building a new church - and that was Sacre Coeur of Jesus from Montmartre
the same French people funded the construction, donating even modest amounts, till the national vow was completed; so, this is the spirit of that place, of that church; after less than 40 years, France revenged, after WW1
