“Stunning building”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

I have been to Paris many times but had not had the opportunity to visit the Palais Garnier until recently. The building is beautiful and we were there for the New Year's Eve ballet so the entrance was decorated with roses. (Ps- The ballet wasn't that flash and most in our group found it odd).

“Amazing building, the very centre of Paris!!!...”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Opéra Garnier is an amazing building worthing a visit, beautiful spot located at the centre of Paris. Beautiful as well backlighted by night, not to miss. I always choose my hotel in front of Opera Garnier, in Caumartin Str., lovely place overlooking Palace Garnier. Try also the best "croque-monsieur" in Paris at the famous Café de La Paix, next to the Opera

“Sheer grandeur”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

If you can't get to Versailles, the Opera is quite a good substitute. Opulent building, whether inside the auditorium or in the halls and corridors around it. The Grand Foyer is like the gallery of a classical chateau - a bit like the Hall of Mirrors without the mirrors. The Grand Staircase is certainly imposing and the library is a fascinating record of the Opera's past

“The home of the Phantom”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

I have always had a love for architecture, especially that of theaters. The Palais Garnier in Paris is one of the most lavish examples of Renaissance and Baroque styles I have ever seen. It is massive, majestic, and lavish both inside and out. There are several ways to enjoy the Opera house. Firstly, take a look at it's exterior. Walk around the building and enjoy the free view. The pictures do not do it justice. It's sheer size will impress you, let alone the details that have gone into the construction. You can also purchase a self guided tour for about 6€ a person. You'll be able to enjoy the scenery without the mass of people there would typically be if you would have bought a ticket to actually see the Palais in action, as an Opera house. Tickets to see an opera are not that expensive and can give you a glimpse into to the old world charm of the building.

Things to take note of:

*The lighting inside can make taking pictures difficult. Bring a good camera or set your camera on a stable surface (or tripod) to capture the different rooms.

*The Grand Staircase is best seen across from it on the upper level.

*Do not miss The Grand Foyer. It is just a hallway to some, to others it is a work of art.

*The Chandelier in the middle of the auditorium was designed by Garnier; the architect and genius of the entire building. It is the original inspiration for the chandelier which falls to the stage in the Phantom of the Opera, both the movie and Broadway hit.
